The photo resembled his avatar at that time, and I wonder whether he actually caught that, or honestly couldn't get why I'd post it.

I am pretty sure he would have realized that. Doesn't change the reality that image only posts are not allowed.

You broke the forum rules.  First time, he warned you by asking you to explain exactly how you hadn't broke the forum rules.  Instead of explaining, you broke the rules again, so of course he banned you.

Did you even know who you were talking to?

I'd say the line is drawn between topic and person, not person and avatar ;)

A picture of a Vader costume also doesn't have anything to do with a topic discussing a particular issue of Star Wars.
It says "connected the topic", not "the movie series mentioned" ;)
