Thanks!  To me simplicity is key.  I don't try to make them look retail because they're not.  Also, I am used to a lot of my work being customized for edits anyway.  Plenty of room for any editor to add what they may.

Galatians 2: 20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Great work on the covers, though I think that fake leather look is a little dated now perhaps? As a possible alternative, I rather liked the navy blue background of this early release:

For the nostalgic amongst is, it would be nice to have an original trilogy set using this cover:

Just throwing some ideas out there :)

Those are very nice covers Coov, but I have to agree, the leather look seems dated now and has been done before(maybe by you LOL) is there anything at all that could replace the leather look?

I like the leather look, actually, even though I try to avoid leather products in real life as much as possible.  The only thing I'd change is "Prequels" to "Prequel Trilogy."  It just sounds more professional.  Not that I care about the prequels, and I'm not sure how it would work fontwise, but to me it just sounds more official.  "Prequels" just sounds like shorthand.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

The leather look just reminds me of the LOTR DVD boxsets. The designs look fantastic, that just nags at me a little.

OK...  I have been working on these as replacement covers since the others suck so bad.     Thoughts?

I'm going to have to say - they're a thousand times better than what LFL is releasing.  In fact, better than any they have ever released.  Digging the simplicity.  Nicely done, sir.

Agree! They look a billion times better.

Coov, those do look nice.

I love the front of the first one, but not so sure I like the back as much. I for one kind of like the leather look.

I like the leather look myself. Gives the art some added depth, for lack of a better term.

Any word on how I look on the blu-ray yet?  Stunning, or amazingly stunning?

^ Barefaced, undisguised, unmistakably, clear as a bell, indisputable, self-evidently, self-explanatorily stunning, I would presume.  Unless they've replaced you with Darth Obvious for this blu-ray edition.  Only Ken knows for sure about this change.

here's some news...

On a different note - the FSK that rates movies here in germany has tested some more material from the upcoming Blu-Ray Set:
Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Blu Ray Version) (New Edition) 125 Minutes (24 fps)
Star Wars Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (Blu Ray Version) 142 Minutes (24 fps)

Movies that are released again on a new medium are only reviewed by the FSK if they are indeed altered versions or different cuts. LotR for example has not been reviewed again for it's Blu-Ray outing...

Furthermore on Disc 7 there is something called "Boba Fett: First Look" (8:39 Minutes)
That's the Boba Fett-Cartoon from the Holiday-Special I think...

The Holiday Special cartoon is 9 minutes, so my guess is they've expanded this SW.com video, "Meet Boba Fett", into this 'Boba Fett: First Look' blu-ray extra: http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000743.html  Maybe they've included some of the parade where the new paint job Boba made his first appearance.

Wait, we've all thought TPM because of the digital Yoda would put that on this list.  The times match other released versions, curious.

So that means the films will be available on iTunes??  Even more people seeing the 2004 versions......

Well i got a reply from the person who was at the Blu-Ray preview at the Disney offices and it does look like we are getting the same old crappy transfers done for the 2004 DVD set:

As I was also at the launch of the Original Trilogy DVD box set, and spoke to Lowry Digital, who made the digital masters, it is my belief that the Blu-rays are created from the same masters as the DVDs. However, Lowry Digital originally created either 4k2k or 8k4k masters at the time (my memory is a little vague) not 1080p ones. And I believe it is these that have been used as the basis for the new BD transfers. Certainly, they are considerably better than either the DVD versions or 1080i TV broadcasts.

Is that news for us? I forget.
News to me. Last I heard was this:
“We’d done a lot of work on the films prior to going to John [Lowry],” he [Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Lucasfilm and Executive Producer of the collection] says, “re-mastering them in high-def, down-converting them into standard def, and re-color timing them. We actually took a cleaning pass through Industrial Light and Magic, as well, but then ultimately took them down to John to make them pristine.”
So according to the only article about the restoration, it doesn't even sound like they cleaned it in 1080p, but 480p (which is crazy).

BUT later in the article:
To clean the films Lowry pushed high-definition scans of the original negatives provided by LucasFilm through his proprietary software running on 600 dual-processor Power Mac G5 computers, each with Mac OS X, 4 gigs of RAM and connected via gigabit Ethernet to a 378-terabyte storage array.
So they did clean up the 1080p files provided by LFL.

Everything is fiction, nothing is true.

To sum up, LFL sent 1080p files they had already color treated and tried to clean up. Lowry saw NO prints.

BTW, came up with a good description of the blue-tint:

Why am I not at all surprised?

And why would LFL pump the color levels to such a terrible degree to match the Tech IB print of George's instead of merely SCANNING THE ACTUAL PRINT ITSELF?

Scanning the actual print itself (like most Blu-rays) would make too much sense. That goes against LFL policy, which has been in place since 1982.
