Yeah, the 1st one was just a test of concept for which I used one of my previous attempts of integrating the GOUT Jabba into the HD footage. When I decided that the smoke might work, I started from scratch and re-did it with adding the smoke already on my mind, because it meant that I had more freedom with the integration as the smoke would cover it up partially (eg. I didn't have to denoise it so heavily).
I used an actual filmed smoke element, no CG animation. I gave the smoke a bit of a blue tint to match the actual smoke in the shot and added some grain to it to better integrate it into the shot.
