Never could understand a word that man said. Apparently even HE doesn't know the words to Yellow Leadbetter...
Yellow Ledbetter is one of my favourites! I also like Australian Crawl and am still deciphering James Reyne's lyrics to this day...
Also, one of my favourite Ella Fitzgerald songs is her Mack the Knife where she sings a whole verse about not remembering the verse :P
Lefty Frizzell.

Just break the rules! I picked five.
Bob Dylan
Jack White
Dave King
Edited list:
Michael Stipe is probably my favorite, but Roger Daltrey is the most powerful.
Jim Morrison, David Bowie, Dave Gahan
Bono-just listen to The Unforgettable Fire especially "Bad".
Kurt Cobain-just for the way he could howl his vocal chords out.
Pete Townshend, Ian Curtis, Robert Palmer, Eric Burdon, Billie Holliday, Bobby Darin, Joe Strummer, Johnny Rotten for his vocal sneering, and of course Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and even Ringo.

Changed my mind.
Jeff Mangum - Neutral Milk Hotel. Simply magical.
His lyrics and voice are very addictive. The first time I heard Neutral Milk Hotel I didn't care much for them, then years was reintroduced to them and was immediately hooked. In An Aeroplane Over the Sea has become one of my most listened to albums.
King Diamond, James Hetfield, Zakk Wylde, Billy Squire, David Draiman, Ozzy Osbourne, Keith Whitley, Ronnie Milsap, George Strait, Earl Thomas Conley, Milla Jovovich, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Cherie Curry, and a lot more LOL.
