Sorry to bring an old issue but ady now with the new 3d artist you have, can you give us some info about adding or not the flaps from the snow speeder cockpit shots?

Just a quick comment on the latest YouTube clip Ady: I love the subtle additions you've made, such as the Falcon's search lights illuminating the interior of the space slug, and the slight camera shake when Luke's X-wing crashes on Dagobah.  It's small things like this which may go unnoticed while viewing the film (I actually had to rewind 2-3 times to confirm that a change had been made), but it registers subconsciously with the viewer and helps make the film feel more "real."

Of course, I also like the not-so-subtle additions too -- the added asteroids look great while adding consistency.

The one thing that kills me is the anticipation of seeing the new TIE collision shot in the canyon every time you post a new clip, only to see it hasn't been included.  Are you planning on sharing this shot when it's completed, or will this be one of the surprises you'll reserve for the final release?

P.S. As for the TIE colour debate, while I like the look of grey TIEs, I also appreciate that the actual prop colours were bluish-grey, so I have no problem with Ady staying true to the original colours in ESB:R and ROTJ:R, while recolouring the TIES in ANH:R:SE.

Is it possible to make Han interrupt at least just for a second 3PO when he's speaking about the possibilities of surviving an asteroid field?. It's one of the few moments of ESB that doesn't feel right for me.

C-3PO: Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3720 to 1.

Han Solo: Never tell me the odds.

Han says "never tell me the odds" quite angry. If the line would have been delivered in an ironical, or sarchastic way then I find it believable that Han waited till 3PO ended up his prhase to say "never tell me the odds". But by the way it was actually delivered, it could be better:

C-3PO: Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3720...

Han Solo: NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS.

I don't know whether this suggestion would be considered invasive for what the revisited series propose, though.

"Never tell me the odds" is perfect. It shows that he knows the odds and doesn't care, not that he doesn't care about odds in general.

I'm not against Han's line. I think it's not believable when he says it, mainly because of the way he says it. I think he should interrupt 3PO a little, not letting him finish his "possibility" line.

If he knows the odds, and he doesn't care, plus he has to be concentrated not to crash an asteroid, plus 3PO always annoys him, I think he would interrupt 3PO, he clearly doesn't wanna hear all that jibber jabber... like "I know what you are going to say, I also know about the odds, but I don't wanna hear you... shut up"

Other thing could be have Han let 3PO end his line and then reply very quietly in an ironical mode "Listen... never tell me the odds". In that case you could say he's kinda making fun of 3PO, and being rather fond of himself. But we don't have that material, ofc (and I mention this hypotethical case not because it's what I wanted for the movie, but just to make my point clear).

The way it is now, it's neither one case nor the other. Han patiently waits 3PO to end his line, to reply impatiently, and violently (?).

Maybe he was too busy flying to interrupt him. It doesn't matter, that's something Adywan would never change. It would be Ady's "Han Shot First".

This.

Just caught the new clip, looks awesome Ady!   It doesn't matter to me if the ties are blue or grey. It will still be the same movie.

Hope everything is going ok with you at home.

I'm not sure what you are hearing or seeing, Mith, but Han's "Never tell me the odds..." line is delivered with the perfect, sarcastic confidence that Harrison Ford infused in his character (before he stopped caring in Jedi)

I think the editing in Empire was letter perfect. I don't consider what Ady is doing to be a "fan-edit", I think of it as an "enhancement"

"Darth Vader... tall and threatening in his black helmet, flowing black cape, and a face, forever masked, by a foreboding metal breath screen...

Darth Vader... a figure, who moves forever in a cloud of awesome evil!"

I'm not saying the line is bad delivered. I said that it doesn't feel right that han waits 3PO to end his line to answer.

Put yourself in that situation, and in han's mood (anxious, impatient, and knowing that 3PO is some kind of sheldon cooper (?)). You'd interrupt 3PO mainly because you just think most of what he says is bull.

I don't think that just trimming the end of 3PO line just to make han's attitude towards the droid match the tone of "never tell me the odds" (which is all what I suggested; I didn't ever suggest touching han's line at all) would be a Han-shots-first case. But who knows.

And yes, I know that revisited should be taken as an enhancement and not as a fan-edit, which is why I have written that the suggestion might not match in its origin what Ady's aiming at.

I haven't been able to check in here properly for a while recently, but I just wanted to flag this up for anyone that hasn't seen this yet -

http://www.facebook.com/notes/star-wars-revisited-the-saga/attention-revisited-fans-your-chance-to-own-a-piece-of-revisited/252083638140559

Neat to see that a 'Dagobah' miniature (!) is planned too, in addition to everything else being made. (A hectic schedule is still getting in the way of the many 'Dagobah' issues/potential fixes I still hope to go into in detail sometime, but I'll get around to them all in the near future hopefully)

For those that don't have facebook, here is what i posted over there:

OK guys, here it is. Your chance to own one of the set pieces/ models that are being created for use in ESB:Revisited.

As you may or may not know i am creating new miniature set pieces and models to replace matte paintings and for other scenes, but the cost of getting al the materials needed is beyond my means at the moment, so to be able to afford to continue with these edits i'm solely reliant on donations. . Now i wanted to offer something back to those that donate towards the costs of the materials needed to create all these items. So here is what is going to happen:

Anyone that donates towards ESB:Revisited between 1st July 2011 and the final cut off point for donations, once the cost of the materials has been covered,(i will announce that donations are closed one everything needed has been purchased and any donations made after this time will be immediately refunded/refused) will have their names entered into a draw to win one of these one off items. How it will work is that for every £5 donated that person will be allocated a ticket that will be put into the hat for the draw. So that mean the more you donate the higher the chance of winning.

Now these are the items up for offer with which the winner will be able to make their own choice of which one they prefer):

Rebel shield generator scratch built model

Dagobah miniature set with crashed Xwing (used to replace the matte when Luke first crashes on Dagobah)

Rebel turret gun ( action figure scale) with partial Hoth Battle Trench

Dagobah background diorama (used to replace the matte there the X-Wing is lifted out of the water and flies towards Luke)

A large section of the asteroid canyon (which i will add a damaged TIE fighter fixed to the canyon wall)

Now one of these items will be the main prize, but there are also 10 runners up prizes. Each of the runners up will recive an A3 framed print of the original painting i did for the original ANH:Revisited DVD cover (which is also this sites main profile pic). Each one will be personally signed to the winners by me.

So how can you donate? Well you can donate through Paypal to this email address: adywan@hotmail.co.uk or go to

http://swrevisited.wordpress.com/

and on the main page on the right hand side you will see a small paypal button. Just click on this and it will take you to the donation page.

Now , as i said earlier, i really wouldn't be able to finish this edit without the help of the kind people who have donated towards the materials costs so a huge thank you to you all.

If you do donate then please make sure you include your full name and preferred contact email address in the paypal notes or if using the wordpress link (not sure if it allows you to attach notes)  email me at adywan@hotmail.co.uk  with your full name, the email address you donated with and your preferred contact email address.

All winners will be announced here and will also be contacted through their preferred email addresses.

Now i can't stress enough that any donations towards ESB:Revisited are only used towards the cost of materials so please don't contact me offering any donations in return for a copy of the finished film as these email will be ignored. The Revisited saga will be available for free so if anyone ever offers you a copy in return for payment then please refuse. George Lucas owns Star Wars and not us so i am completely against anyone making any form of profit apart from the legitimate owners of this franchise.

This reminds me that when it comes time to start on ROTJ:R you should see what it takes to setup a kickstarter page at http://www.kickstarter.com/. Might be more hassle than just using your paypal account, but might also be a good way to generate funds.

I've actually looked into Kickstarter for the project. Some of the downsides would be that you have to have a US bank account and I think it might even be TOO much exposure. I can see funding a fan film or something on there, but I think a fan edit rides the legal line too much that it would probably be taken down, either by Kickstarter or LFL, either of which would bring attention we don't necessarily want.

Something tells me ROTJ:R wouldn't fly there.

That looks fantastic!!! Nice and subtle. It would add a lot of realism but I can imagine how difficult it would be to do.

You are a crazy person. It's awesome, but seems like a lot of work. I can't help but look at it because I know its new, but I'm sure most people wouldn't notice.

My vote is to do it.

Hmm Mixing thoughts there.

Even i like the concept there are lot of stuff you (already) have to consider

Most of the smoke/atmos layers it seems that are on screen mode. Makes them look even 1 or two bits extra bright. Plus the compositing errors that even in big budget movies are doing is, when placing an element that is flat but is a representation of 3d the illusion fails because (not always) from the transfer mode.

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=5142888&postcount=4467

Taking reference from this topic you can notice that not all the detail is inside a newly placed element.

I wish i could find the making of Titanic (you propably had seen it) It was a hole documentary how they filmed and they added digitaly the frozen breaths at the ending.

In general lines they placed a black box with a light from above in a cold environment and I think Jon Landau was repeating the lines from script so every breath/atmos have its own personality and be as original as possible.

I like the concept :) I hope it can be right as possible

EDIT: I had an idea that is being used before. Trying to make the atmo layer into a normal map with the use of some plugins (a batch work im afraid) and then you can relight the atmos when it needed

Looks very good and well thought out but I found myself just looking at the new breath, I would probably be distracted through the whole Hoth segment if you did it, till I got used to it.

It really looks authentic, but at the same time, I just don't see the point. It's your call, but I feel like you may have more important things to worry about. But it does look good.
