Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon

Unlike you, Greeny, my expectations were in the right place.  I saw it in Imax 3D and paid as little attention as possible to the storyline/acting/etc. and simply enjoyed explosion after transformation after explosion, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I actually think this is one of Bay's biggest failure points - his action sucks.  He has no sense of geography, there's no sense of style, it's all just a bunch of loud shit thrown up on screen.  You can't tell which transformer is which, you can't tell what the hell is going on, etc. etc. etc.

And this is just based on TF1.

Make that two.

Geography is something Spielberg takes very seriously as an artist - and as a fan sitting in the theater, I thank him.  The moment I can't tell where things are - Bourne 2 & 3, Quantum Of Solace, nearly every TV show - I'm out.  One watch only, if that.  I'm the customer - I don't pay money to sit and work for the story.  If the director wants my money, he'll show me the story.

Interesting how the current generation is not only becoming accustomed to not having geography in a scene, they almost seem to prefer not having it. Guys like Bay and Greengrass don't even need to frame a shot or waste time trying to set it up.  Just roll continuously, move the camera unnecessarily, make a million edits later, toss in some music, and call it style.

Reign of Fire - 8/10

I miss that Matthew McConaughey.

I really liked Reign of Fire, but the ending felt flat to me.  The best action is in the middle of the film.  I think the ending needed a boost in the arm.  Perhaps whilst Bale and McConaughey are sneaking into the lair, they should have had some of the secondary characters creating a diversion outside of town.  Something violent that can match the action from the skydiving scene.

Sry, just was confusing and illogical to me. The movie seemed to try real hard to inject an emotional angle on it, but came out lame to me.

just remember Johnny tried to warn you when you find yourself cornered by xhonzi and his ilk.

IGNOwaitaminutehere...  Have I ever ignored someone for not liking the movie?  Or just for not seeing it?  I can't recall.  Is there precedent here?

I pretended to dislike it at first, and I don't even think you acknowledged it...which is probably the ultimate ignore.

ferris, it just sounds to me like you need to watch it again.  You said it was confusing and illogical, but it's actually very well constructed logically.

Better make it three.

When I saw Transformers 2 in the theater, I got a headache during the desert fight sequence. The camera angles were f***ed up. It felt claustrophobic. It was like getting a lapdance by a cement truck half the time.

Friends told me I was a snob for saying I didn't like it. I kept trying to say there was too much shit on the screen, but I don't understand composition.

I'm completely avoiding Transformers 3, because the trailer alone has too much shit going on.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The Doors.

Maybe I would have liked it more if they portrayed Jim Morrison as a little more likable. He was never this crazy. In fact, most of the time he was a pretty likable down to earth guy. I guess they thought that would be too boring.

When the Indian Chief leaves him, I thought "Why didn't he leave him earlier   in the film? He's been batshit insane since the movie got about 30 minutes in!"

Still, Val Kilmer looked, sounded, and moved just like him.

You're good Frink. I doubled checked my post to see if I actually said that.

The problem with Stone's movie is that it is about his imagination of what the 60's counterculture was like. He then put "The Doors" in the middle of it. Val Kilmer is astonishing but only gets to be insane. The When You're Strange doc is much better about being true to the source, but it's really not very in depth.

I dunno maybe Jim would have found the movie hysterical.

Mission Impossible. I don't know why I kinda like this movie. Maybe I've watched too many times. It is a major Hollywood blockbuster that makes you use your brain. WTH? Not a bad two hours, and probably the only major studio movie where Tom Cruise isn't annoying.

The Company Men

I enjoyed it.  Story of  how layoffs at the upper management level can affect individuals and their families. Certainly topical in these times and that helped make it deeper. That said, there have been more than a few of these types of stories over the years, so you can sort of see what's going to happen.  Nothing terribly shocking and no big revelations.

It was well done and probably the best version of this type of story I've ever seen.  For me, sometimes it's nice to sit and take in a modern day drama that hits close to home, given the state of our economy.  Nice outing by an all-star cast.  Each was believable.

I give it 4 out of 5 resumes

My wife said that to, I watched it again. Hated it more the second time. It just tried too hard on every aspect to me, and I really hate dubious endings.
