It's been tried around here in the past, to no avail. You'd need the playback gear and the corresponding print for the discs to play.

Hopefully this is just some fan made rubbish that Amazon have used, but i have a bad feeling it is real.

I bet a hundred dollars that it is real. It's precisely what LFL would release nowadays. Did you expect it to be good?

Yeh, they're real:( You can tell by the fact that each disc has had the same style of artistic treatment done to them as is on the separate trilogy box sets. It must've taken the art department al of 10 minutes to create those.  Another set that has been created by the cheapest possible means to make the highest possible profit. It's not looking too good for the transfers of the OTSE. Same old crappy transfers we already have from the HDTV sources. but with even worse additions.

Honestly, they didn't look that bad, until I clicked "view image".

Then I noticed that they were made to look like watercolor paintings in Photoshop! What the hell?!?

Could have been a lot worse. They could have slapped Mr. Binks' face on one of them! ;)

It's good they have that little booklet so you won't forget the real main characters.

Adywan 1st off we don't know if the same transfers for SE OT that where on dvd will be used for the blu-ray box set. Why do you keep saying that? DVD's are 480p and Blu-Ray is 1080p ok.  And the encodes for DVD's are MPEG 2 blu-rays are using VC-1 or AVC HD MPEG 4. We won't know what the transfers will look until we see screen captures on the different blu-ray sites like digital bits , blu-ray.com etc.

Your ignorance is starting to get on my nerves.

1) Yes, we don't know for sure that it will be the same transfer but from all the information we have it just seems more than likely.

2) What transfer it is has absolutely nothing to do with the capabilities of DVD or Blu-Ray. The transfers for DVD were done in 1080p and then downscaled to 480p for the DVD, so they can be used for Blu-Ray. But they were done poorly, so they look like shit in 1080p VC-1 just like they did in 480p Mpeg2.

I'm trying not argue with some fans on the issue about the transfers of the OT SE for blu-ray. All I am saying is wait until the final product comes out in September then judge for yourself's.

The thing I am suspicious of is why release a trailer showing 2004 transfers of the OT if that is not what they are going to release? Furthermore showing new PT transfers in the trailer and not the OT, must steer more towards this is what we are getting. I mean, why show one new transfer and not the other? I'd like to think there is a genuine good reason for it but I just think it is wishful thinking, probably because there is no new transfer of the OT..

I'm not giving George the benefit of the doubt. 2004 was my final purchase, and will stay that way. I won't buy another blue tinted SE again.

I'll wait and see what some of the competent folks here have to say about it, and probably still won't purchase it. George is using deleted scenes to bait real fans. It isn't gonna work on me. I'll take my Star Wars without any extra filler.

George pays attention to the changes in Technology.

He saw 1080p was gonna be the next big thing, so he scanned his films out of sheer "Don't wanna do this again". He is a businessman, and a conservative one at that.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Now THIS I totally agree with you on, to many people just want to expect the worst right from the get go, just like the people spouting the crap on the LOTR FOTR EE green deal, sure it is there, but no where near as bad as the asshats wanted us to believe.

Hi Ken. Perhaps you are confusing the transfer from film to digital, versus the transfer from digital to user media.  Of course transfering to BD is different than transfering to DVD.  Folks here are talking about the earlier step which is transfer from film to digital, and given that it was done in 1080p there is a very good chance that it won't be done again.  Else why would GL have done the last transfer in 1080p in the first place?  It was done for this very purpose.

Of course it will look better than the DVDs because it won't have been downscaled.

I also would be surprised if they didn't tweak the colors [sic] -- in fact I'll bet that they'll reduce the blue a bit in ESB in post, and that will get a bunch of the apologist brainless sheep beaming that it's a brand new transfer.  Haha!  That's just a prediction of course... might not happen.  But if it does, I'm going to say "told you so." :)

All of the above is irrelevant, however, because it's not going to be the original academy-award winning trilogy that came out in 1977, 1980, and 1983 and changed the world of movies.  I'm waiting for that and until then I'll stick with the fan preservations.  That much we DO know, and it's enough for me.  I'm just not interested in watching early CGI remakes of ground-breaking 1977 special effects.

When the Star Trek films came out on Blu-ray, all of the trailers and special features had an older HD transfer of Star Trek II in them, which was VERY grainy. It was probably all they had available to work with at that time. The final transfer was much better, so maybe this is the same situation for Star Wars.

@Puggo: The thing is that a better SE transfer (ie. no crushed blacks, less processed picture, better colours) would allow for a more effective fan preservation of the kind that I'm doing. I'm not holding my breath though...

I'm pretty sure the original SE trailer for ROTJ features some non-SE shots. So the trailer for the Blu-Ray set is not really conclusive proof of what we'll get.
