Guys

Girl Next Door can’t be compared with Shawshank Redemption or It's A Wonderful Life as it will never be a 'Classic'. There are a few amusing moments, but it mostly made me 'smirk' or 'giggle' as apposed to 'laugh out loud'. It is not 'smart' or even that original, with 'Risky Business' being an obvious inspiration, however it’s clearly not as good. Its surprising this movie was 'R' rated in the states as the only people that would genuinely enjoy it would have to be way below that age. As a whole its more 'disappointing' then good

SES, I wouldn't dare compare it to Shawshank or Wonderful Life. Just offering commentary on the concept of Cult Following for failed theatrical releases. Nothing more.

I hear you Bossk. But I’m not sure if ‘flop’ can be genuinely attached to this release as it could not have been largely anticipated in the first place. No major stars attached, suggests it was probably made for pennies also. However I’m not expecting a sequal any time soon.

Yeah, but considering the success of the teen genre (for the most part), especially teen sex romps like American Pie which also had no names in them, I'm sure the producers were expecting a bit more. And they even had someone in it who is already a stand-out sex kitten sort of actress in Elisa Cuthbert. She's been hyped as an up-and-coming Hollywood Vamp for a few years now ever since she started in the first season of 24. Her image is plastered everywhere. So, while she's not an established leading star yet, I'm sure they hoped for much more from a genre flick that had her headlining. Maybe not much more, but definitely not a complete MIA from theaters after only a few weeks.

It was probably rated R for the boobs and the swearing. It would not been nearly as funny or sexy if they had ignorantly gone down to PG-13.

Yeah, it's on par with American Pie which was also rated R. I'm sure it was deserved. And, post Janet Jackson, I'm sure the rating system is going to start to get a bit more conservative as well.

another entry for the "great movies that flopped" series: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. that movie is so great, it's such a pity it didn't work. but i believe that it's going to become a cult movie. it would really deserve it.
