From "The Sun" (altough I wouldn't trust british media except for BBC):

"THE long-awaited final Star Wars blockbuster will be called Birth Of The Empire, movie insiders have revealed."
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Of course. And since TESB no title has ever leaked before it was made official. I think it might have some obvious reasons, they see every title that the press and the fans has told it would be "the title", and choose something else.

Oh Revenge of the Jedi was leaked early - I call that movie Revenge of the Jedi every time, that's the official title for me

Well, considering how much pre-release material actually had Revenge on it, it may as well have been the official title. You can still buy posters with that name. I liked Revenge better. But it was "too dark". Wah. Cry me a river.

Nope. Too young to buy stuff on my own. At least I don't think I ever did. If so, it would've been my parents purchasing it.

yeah but i understand why they changed it. it's true that jedis shouldn't think about revenge (well, as far as i know, haven't met a jedi yet so couldn't ask that question...). and in the movie there is actually no revenge, so the title would have been misleading.
birth of the empire sounds cool to me...but you can't really have a worse title than "the phantom menace"...gah!

gundark's suggestions are very good as well, you should try to contact GL about them...

"Revenge of the Jedi" was leaked early, and changed at the last minute, so it would be easy to spot false products - there are some official posters and a trailer that bears the name "Revenge", it's so cool to hear the annoucer saying "REVENGE of the Jedi". Maybe the same thing might happen to "Birth of the Empire".

personally i liked the Phantom Menace, as a title. it was better the A New Hope because at the time it must not have made much sence, seeing as though no one new about the prequels. ESB was a good title. ROTJ just felt weird. and anything is better the AOTC.

Yuck, I hate the title 'Attack of the Clones'. It was completely unoriginal, and completely obvious. I feel 'Birth of the Empire' carries the same obvious feel to it. In Ep II, it was pretty safe to say the Clone Wars were going to be pictured, just like it's obvious that Episode III will depict the rise of the Empire. I actually liked the title 'The Phantom Menace'. It says something about the movie, without saying too much, just like the original trilogy titles did.
Don't get me wrong, 'Birth of the Empire' is far better than 'Attack of the Clones' ever was, but if I had my say (which I don't ), I'd go with 'The Creeping Fear.' When it was leaked, it had the feeling about it of the older titles, to me, anyway.

Sorry, that's already taken. It'll be The Hobbit's alternative title. Asuming it'll be done.

Well, Ep. III is coming out first, and the Star Wars franchise has earned more money, given that it's been around longer than the LOTR film franchise, so I vote for giving the title to Ep. III. Besides, it really does fit Lucas's cash grabs over the past decade.

I don't think you're missing anything, Bossk. I don't see any difference, either.

Thanks for your apologies, Ric. Actually, I don't know what people were expecting...I wasn't expecting anything other than same old Vader myself. Maybe they were expecting him to run around in a Jar Jar Binks suit, or maybe they were expecting to have George Lucas fill in for the part himself, wielding a lightsaber with his voice overdubbed by James Earl Jones (no, wait...JEJ has too good of a voice for Lucas...best have Ahmed Best do the voice dub).

I'm expecting the good old Vader too, exactly the way he was on the OT (hear that GL?), but... don't you get it? He's back! It's Vader!

I didn't want to try to find the old General Grievous thread, so I'm posting this here. From IMDb...

Quote

Oldman to Play Deadliest 'Star Wars' Villain
British actor Gary Oldman will play the "deadliest" Star Wars villain ever in the franchise's final prequel Episode Three. The Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban star will voice character General Grievous, who is a part-alien/part-robot. And insiders say Oldman - who is considered to be one of the finest actors of his generation - was handpicked for the part by series creator George Lucas, who is a big fan of his work. A source says, "George thought Gary was the ideal choice." According to reports, Oldman's character will try and hunt down Jedi knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi in the film, which is due to hit cinemas next summer.
