Personally, I'd rather have a splicer mask that isn't in tatters. I tried to make one out of paper. I think I posted it here before, but you can search for pepakura bioshock and find lots of them. I made the mistake of making the inside/back first so when I tried to put the front on, it had lots of gaps. I guess I should have just finished it and then bondo'd it and painted it. :( I might have to try it again.
I saw a video of that Big Daddy figure with the LED lights on Youtube. Man, is it cool looking. The lights look fantastic! I almost bought the original Big Daddy figure when it was first released, but didn't want to blow $35 bucks at the time, now I am really glad I didn't because I wouldn't be able to justify this one with the lights.
I've gone through the same phases of loss:
Shock (Wait! I didn't know I needed that!)
Denial (psh... I don't need it. Besides, I heard that they were fragile and broke a lot)
Bargaining (Ebay bids)
Anger (Ebay losses)
Guilt (high ebay bids of which my wife wouldn't approve)
Depression (high ebay bids which were still too low to win)
Hope (maybe there'll be lower demand in the future)
Acceptance (okay, I'll never have a big daddy doll)
Excitement (Holy Carp! This light up Big Daddy is AWESOME!)
Relief (And it's a metric tonne less than those ebay ones I didn't buy!)

Not only do I remember it, I just saw it a couple hours ago when I was searching for the other time you brought up the John Shirley book.
Well, I gave it to a good friend of mine as a gift a short while later, then I decided I still wanted one for myself so I bought the officially one... but it just doesn't look right. The "rubber bands" are made out of felt and the baseball head doesn't even try to pretend to be a real baseball and its weight it really weird. It hangs weird and it sits weird. So, I have decided it is time to produce myself another one from scratch. Though I am not sure how committed to the effort I am yet. If I get anywhere with it, I'll post results.
Interesting... I thought of making one when I heard you'd made one... To keep up with the C3PXs and all... but I never followed through. I thought I might pick up the official one, but based on your review I guess I won't. I guess time will tell if I have the committment to make one.
