Well, technically it was a combination of traditional and CG animation (the Giant was CG), but that was pretty commonplace by that point as every Disney movie including and after The Great Mouse Detective did that too. But anyway, yes, Iron Giant rules.

"Hey man, we're in downtown Coolsville! Population: US!"

I honestly did not know that. Thanks! They pulled it off very well, fooled me. I didn't know there was other Iron Giant fans here. Good to know!

I loved Iron Giant, very beautiful. Steamboy is a japanese film that used the same technique, while the film sucked, I thought it was a very beautiful film.

I loved The Great Mouse Detective!

The Great Mouse Detective was my favorite film as a kid. It was actually my introduction to Sherlock Holmes, though I didn't know it until I had watched Basil Rathbone, how heavily they borrowed from it. I gotta say, it was beautiful.
