Thanks for the update d_j.  Whether or not you decide to do anything with the video in ANH and ESB, it's good just knowing that you're always keeping an eye out for making this preservation the best it possibly can be.

Even if it is only a tiny bit difference, I REALLY wish I would have known this when I did it the first time, half the rendering time.

Wouldn't this newfound trick still come in handy if you decide to do SE Blu's?

Yes, absolutely it would.

In what ways does this new method improve the image quality?

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

I am not sure yet if it even will, that is why I test new things out as I see them, there is only so much that can be done.

Did the ESB menu problem ever get straightened out, d_j?

Yes it did, so 2 down 1 to go, and I have no idea when I will get Jedi, I thought I would have had it a while ago, something must have came up again, and I have no idea when I will get it, all I can do is just keep watching my email.

Yeah, that is good news! I'm really curious to see Empire HD, because I've seen a lot from the other two because DJ was kind enough to send me some samples to use for my projects and they're totally awesome. Miles away from GOUT and even from V3. Though granted, I only saw some samples of that too, because when I first saw the V3 sample, I must admit I was a little disappointed, it was better than GOUT but it wasn't as much better as I'd hoped and I can't download from torrents, so I never downloaded the V3 DVDs. But when I saw the first sample of project blu, I thought: yes, this is it, this is what I've been waiting for! And then when I saw some other scenes that DJ sent me to use in my Despecialized Edition HD, there seriously were times when I was thinking: Why do I even bother, this already looks like HD. I also had a chance to get a glimpse at some of the menus and they look great too, so I'm looking forward to this being finished.

I made some covers for the HD release but I'm waiting for all three films to be finished so I'll be able to put all the necessary info on the backs.

wow...hey dark_jedi could you post a few sample pics from project blu?  i just want to get a rough idea of how much better than the gout it is.

I'm just saying it cuz it's true, it does look really good for being sourced from the GOUT.

Oh and please do (along with the few ROTJ clips that I still need ;-D ).

...Now THAT is exciting! Especially considering how good V3 already is in relation to other GOUT upscales

97 Special Edition would be very nice!

Agreed as much as i loathe the 1997 special edition the colors and sound were not botched, and return of the jedi did not have Hayden and jar jar like in the 2004 cut.

It would also be nice to have all three cuts on Blu ray.

I would like a fixed or tweaked 2004 with correct colors, the 1997 laserdisc sound mix.  The closest thing i can get to that is Adywan's A New Hope Special edition in HD, but he removed Jabba and greedo shooting so it is not a pure preservation.

Ady had also made a ESB SE '97 in HD release. If any effort goes into tackling the '97 SEs by anyone (be it preservation or recreation or anything else), I hope RotJ gets tackled first.

Yep, I've got Ady's '97 HD; it's *amaziing*. REIVAX DTV cap of Star Wars is also pretty impressive (and through it I found out that my BD player can play region-free PAL DVDs, which is a nice added bonus). Only downside is the (understandable) burned-in French subs. But yeah, still waiting for a good ROTJ version. This is the Star Wars I grew up with, inferior though it may be, and I'd like to be able to watch 'em all without having to resort to inferior transfers like the 'Five-Star' or digging up old videotapes.

You should check out the clip d_j posted a few pages back to see how good the Blu-ray looks compared to v3. It truly is night and day!!!

WOW that looks phenomenal! Of course not better than a Harmy-style restoration for sharpness, but I don't think we can do better than this for straight GOUT. I can't wait! No money for Bluray burner and discs, but I can at least convert it into something smaller once they're released. I doff my cap to you, d_j!

Of course, I couldn't play the Blu-Ray audio. There's no codec out there, is there?

The default audio is the 5.1 in lossless DTS, but they are also there in standard Dolby AC3 format, so you should be all set.  That's in addition to all the stereo tracks, in case you prefer those.

Here's a little sample from one of the clips DJ sent me. Top is project blu, bottom is GOUT just resided to the same size:
