The Czech dub on the AVCHD seems a little off-sync to me. Can anyone else confirm?
hey everyone,
i tried to use avstodvd to convert the m2ts file to a ntsc dvd5. i pretty much used all the default settings but i set it to dvd5 and ntsc. It worked but in the middle of the title crawl the video glitches for a second and then through out the whole movie the audio is off. anyone know what i may be doing wrong.
i'm going to try something else. when it asks you to choose which tracks to include i just checked the second track and didn't check the demux audio button. i'm gonna try it this time with that button checked and pray it works.
on a side note i think the second track sounds the best and if there is only one track included i think that should be it.
"I will laugh my ass off a hundred years from now when the only version of STARWARS people remember are harmys despecialized editions. They will project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality."
Chewtobacca has already finished his NTSC DVD5 conversion. He used avisynth, so in terms of video, the results should be better than a user friendly app like that and the audio will be h_h's 5.1. I'm just downloading it and we are in testing stages but it should be available within a week. The download size is only 3.7GB, so I'll probably be adding one or two more audio mixes, if I figure out how to do it. But if anything, I'd be adding the monomix and the stereo mix, so that it has the complete 1977 audio mix range.

Yeah. I only synced the beginning of it and being taken from a VHS, it somehow goes out of sync during the Death Star sequence and then returns to sync around before the battle of Yavin.
OK, so this is definitely the best version of the original Star Wars I've ever seen. negative1 said cuts from the GOUT were obvious, but frankly I thought they were very well done. No more CGI bullshit in Mos Eisley, no more mysterious blue ring of energy when the Death Star blows up &c.
There are a few sore points with the re-coloring back to 1977 goodness (as Harmy himself admitted already). Purple/pink blaster fire 'blinks' are still in there. Some weird colors reflected onto R2-D2 (green, purple) at odd points (in the desert when Luke goes after him). (Not sure if they're actually supposed to be there though.) Some...I dunno, discoloration? on the right side of the screen in a few Mos Eisley scenes. First few credits look awkward - they fade from old-style fuzzy blue to sharp light blue and back out to fuzzy blue as they fade out. Scrolling credits also look weird: the left half, with the titles, looked like sharp-light-blue surrounded by dark blue fuzz, and the right half, with the titles, was sharp-light-blue.
But honestly, this is nitpicking. We really can't do much better than this, methinks. Kudos, sir.
“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”
Ah I see, the flashes are supposed to be there, but the colors are fixed. My mistake. I haven't actually watched the film in a long time, and I'm not sure anymore what's supposed to be in there and what isn't :)
“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”
Lol. You should all read the ppt to get a sense of how much work went into to this. It's pretty staggering.

Harmy,
I've taken plenty of time to view this before giving feedback. Of course, everyone has told you how great it is and I whole-heartedly agree.
The first viewing I was so caught up the technical details, trying to see how well the shots blended and paying close attention to the colors. I think the shots you recomposited are fantastic; the upscaled GOUT fits well; I especially like the entire Mos Eisley sequence (no more stupid rontos and dewbacks blocking the screen); the original shots of the X wings in front of the gas planet; and all the original Yavin shots. It was great not having to look at all that ugly cgi. It just doesn't belong there.
All those re-colored flashes and lasers make a huge difference. The sickly feelings of watching the 2004 version are all gone; that version is like looking through a dark tinted car window with pink (and blue) goggles. It is so refreshing to look at what you've done.
I know you couldn't fix the duel lightsabers, which is a bummer, but they do look better. I miss that retro animated look of the original, but I guess there's always GOUT sourced projects If I want to see it.
The second viewing I was able to just sit back and relax and watch the film, and it was a happy experience indeed. The Death Star battle really shines here; the 2004 version seems dull compared to this. It has been a while since the film was so much fun. It's similar to when I first saw Ady's Revisited, only better!
Anyway, thanks for taking all the time and effort to do this, you've made us all very happy; and thanks to Adywan and hairy hen and everyone else! :)

The disc size is actually 4.27 GB. I tried to squeeze the mono mix on, but it was a little too large.
EDIT: Multiupload appears not to have uploaded part5 to Megaupload successfully. That's why you read the download as 3.7 GB. You'll have to use one of the other download services for that file.
I'm actually missing part 7, not 5.
Weird! For me part5 does not show up on Megaupload. Regardless, download that from another download service and you'll be fine.
Yeah, I'm already getting it from one of the other servers. It must have been temp. unavailable when I imported the links. It took me quite long to figure out why in hell I couldn't unpack it :-D
I'm a casual fan who, luckily, has never seen the special editions, and your work is absolutely AMAZING. A few of the mattes were slightly blurry, but on the whole the despecialized parts are seamless. A standard definition version would blend everything together even more, though a DVD5 seems kind of small for a two-hour film. Thank you!
I've hit a snag. I opened the 0000.m2ts in VLC on my Macbook, and that went okay, But as soon as I tried to scroll forward, EVERYTHING froze, and I had to restart by holding the power button (that made me die a little) This has happened 3 times now, and I'm rather desperate. Any advice?
Get a Windows?
@BoxMonster: Yes but SD* version was never my goal, so the NTSC DVD5 is just a compromise for those who didn't yet upgrade to HD.
*(shit definition)

lol
In the past, Windows computers have frozen more and quicker without even doing anything.
Not saying I'm anti, because I need Windows for certain animation programs, but I use Parallels for that.
In general Mac has given me less grey hairs until now :D
And in the past, people used whale-oil lamps. Things change.
I don't know, it just seems to me that Mac users seem to have much worse trouble with these kinds of things.
I played it in VLC on my Mac with no difficulties. Loconut, if you're having any more troubles, send me a PM.
Harmy, will you ever consider restoring the 1981 ANH crawl in a similar quality to the original crawl in your reconstruction?
I don't really see the need for that, as is it is almost the same as the SE one, except for the starfield. It's way too much work for it to be worth it.
Watched it.
It looked fantastic Harmy.
It gave me a raging clue.
There should be no further suggestions or criticism for Harmy. We finally have a fabulous presentation of Star Wars that is nothing short of amazing. We should now focus our efforts on telling Harmy how great he is. We have all been coming to this site for so many years that some of us seem to have become confused as to our original goal. Our goal was to have Star Wars on DVD, and now we have it in a quality that can only be called fucking awesome. There should be no more "Harmy you should do this" or "Harmy I don't like that". You bitches don't deserve to smell Harmy's shit. Harmy rules. Harmy rules and you don't, just get over it. Harmy delivered and you didn't, so shut up. From now on just tell Harmy how fucking amazing this thing is and how much he rules because that's the truth. Harmy rules, Harmy is the man, Harmy is Elvis, Harmy is Zeus.
HARMY RULES
I would have read that post but I was too busy looking for Stinky's chipmunk.
...
That sounded gay, didn't it?
