Yeah, guys, JDownloader is the way to go with this. And I think it's also quite slow now because there's so many people downloading it.

That could be Harmy, because I think I was the first to get the links and I jumped on it right away.

Thanks Harmy! This is the first preservation that can really replace the GOUT for me. I will mention a few issues, and I apologize if these have already been addressed:

You added back quite a few shots that I would not have noticed or worried about but left the Leia hologram with vertical lines :(

The scene when the droids reach Tatooine looks the tiniest bit strange - did you use a shot from the GOUT as a static background image? There is no movement in the grain/noise as Threepio moves. This is not really a problem, just curious.

The background wobbles quite a bit where the second floating droid has been removed, but it is infinitely more preferable to seeing the floating droid :)

Overall this is excellent, my favourite version for sure. I also had no synch issues like I did with the PDE. Thanks again for your hard work Harmy!

I like ulozto because it has it's own search function and the upload is incredibly fast - where it took several hours to upload ESB to MU and even longer to upload some of my previous projects to RS, it only took an hour to upload this to ulozto. I had a stedy upload speed of 3Mb/s.

Chances are Harmy is well aware of these issues. After all, he's toiled away on this project for many weeks and restored things to the best of his current abilities, all things considered.

I personally wouldn't bother bringing up any imperfections unless they're glaring technical errors. STAR WARS DeEd is complete and has been released to the public. There's no turning back, now.

Unless Harmy announces a 2.0 version somewhere down the line, there's really no point in nitpickery at this late stage in the game. Enjoy as is or feel free to make your own alterations.

That's my take, anyway.

I didn't mean to seem like a nitpicker. I certainly appreciate Harmy's work and as I said, it is excellent. I don't think the things I mentioned even warrant a v2, I was just providing what I hoped would be viewed as constructive criticisms/observations.

Thanks, Griff, but I don't mind some feedback, especially as there may be a version 2.0 down the line but that would be when the Blus come out because I'm quite bothered by the compression artefacts in the HDTV broadcasts, which are magnified by any attempt at colour correction. And there are a few things in ESB that I'd like to fix or should be able to do better with the experience I gained doing STAR WARS and I will have gained doing Jedi.

@ DoubleKO:

I did ask for feedback because I'm interested in what people think of my work, so thank you :-)

Yeah, I did use a static picture of the sky in that shot (though from 97SE) and if you look closely, there is grain added to it but I did underestimate the static grain already present - I should have denoised the picture first but I don't think it looks that bad.

And the wobling background in the droid scene has indeed been discussed before and unfortunately, there was nothing more I could have done about it.

As I understand it, Harmy, you did your very best and I just think that criticism at this stage (wasn't that what the workprint was for?) would make you less inclined to try harder (if at all) in future, y'know? I've always found that compliments can be more encouraging than criticism. A true artist will never be satisfied, regardless...

I'd feel terrible for you if the blu rays were a substantial improvement over the hdtv broadcasts but I won't pretend that I don't hope it to be so.

Referencing the download speed...  I should've let it run overnight as I would've had the whole thing, but I don't leave my computer on overnight so I had pause jdownloader & just now got around to picking it back up.  I got the first 7Gb in about 2 hours & now my dl speed has plummeted (i agree it's probably due to traffic) and it's going to take another hour & a half to get the last 0.8 Gb.   Ah well, I've still gotta go grab some dvd9s anyway...

Sorry for the double post, but my technological ignorance strikes again.  I read the guide to burning an ACVHD to disc with IMGburn that was linked in the ESB DeEd thread, but I'm a little confused.  The files for SW DeEd have extracted into an ISO file, not the CERTIFICATE and BDMV folders that the guide talks about.  If I'm not mistaken, an ISO is an image file...?  So do I just use the "write image file to disc" option then, like it's a normal dvd, or do I follow the AVCHD writing guide?

Just right click on the iso file and it should say "burn with imgburn".  I'm burning mine right now, 32% finished...

I just popped this in my PS3 & spot checked it (will have to watch it in full later when I have time).  All I can say is WOW!  I really can't belive how good this is.  & I was stunned at how well the non HD material was blended in.  I mean, yeah you can spot it if you're looking for it, but it's done so well that it doesn't jump out & scream "I'm not in HD!!!" like I feared it might.

If we are providing constructive criticism, there's a few things I'd mention.  The thing that bugs me the most is the SE lightsabers remaining.  They just look SO different than the original ones and I'm a big nerd about lightsabers, so anything "off" about them jumps out at me instantly.  But I'd imagine it would be quite difficult to put the old sabers into the HD footage (then again, based on some of the other amazing stuff you did, maybe not?).  Also, some of the smoke in the explosions/laser flashes on the Blockade Runner are still pretty bright pink.

But those are really the only significant things that "jumped out" at me, if you will.

Overall I'm just overwhelmed with the awesomeness here.  Like someone else said, this is really the first preservation I've seen that will actually replace the GOUT for me (not that I won't still watch that on occasion, but this will now be my "go to" copy of Star Wars).  Really great work!

On a final note, it's work like this that makes me confident that within the next 5 or 10 years we'll see a fan preservation of the OOT that is absolutely on par in every way with what an official release should be.

Thank you :-)

I did try to put the original lightsabres back but the difference in quality was too glaring. It was one thing to put the original LS into the cave fight scene in Empire, because it was very dark with practically a black background, so the blended in quite well but in SW the duel takes place in front of a relatively bright and detailed backgrounds.

I think the only way to fix the LS while keeping the quality would be to actually recreate them and try to stay as true to the original as possible and I really don't have the patience to do that - and if you compared it to the SE, you'd see that they are actually already much improved (although not by me - I used Ady's AVCHD for the duel). And there are only a few shots where they look marginally different from the GOUT.

As to the flashes, you must realize, that there were pink flashes in the original as well, I sometimes even made more red and less pink than in the GOUT. But there should now be almost no violet and plain purple flashes.

Yeah, I should've looked through more of that "before & after" photo set before I posted.  I've never actually watched the 2004 versions...  But you're right, the lightsabers here DO look better than in 2004.  But they were clearly different from what I was used to with the GOUT (& laserdiscs, & vhs, etc., etc....) so I guess I assumed they were the 2004 versions.

And perhaps the flashes stood out to me b/c the colors are just so much more vibrant than the practically black & white GOUT that I have been watching...

Never the less, still just astounding work!  My mind has been blown!

Just got done watching this and this was amazing!! There was only a couple times I noticed that it was a different source, but 99% of the movie felt like I was watching the real theatrical. You have done a great job on this and I thank you. Great job with this, great job on ESB, and I can't wait until ROTJ. Thanks again for your awesome work.

Wow, wow, WOW.

Just watched this on my 130" 2.35:1 projector screen. The picture held up exceptionally well.

I can safely say that this was my most rewarding viewing of STAR WARS in 15 years. Ever since the 'Special Edition' there's always been a sense of anxiety, a certain level of apprehension, when watching this movie.

I was finally able to completely relax and just enjoy myself while watching. What a movie. Christ, I can't believe that Lucas is embarrassed by this, his greatest achievement.

Anyway, thank you so much, Harmy. You've restored a classic and arguably the greatest movie of all time.

Thanks for making STAR WARS fun and guilt-free again.

I was blown away by this Harmy. Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this project! The Despecialized Editions are my new go-to discs for the original trilogy, and I can't wait for them to be complete.

How did you guys ever get those files?!

Regular download quits at 200MB, JDownloader keeps asking for those passwords you have to copy type.

Isn't there another wórking way to get all this deliciousness??

Yes there is, JDownloader, you must have something setup wrong, worked out just fine for me.

I haven't changed anything since installing it though. Oh and the part 2.rar is said to be offline when JDownloader wants to check it :(
