Oh, yeah, I know about that but it's this bad only in a few shots. In theory, it should be that bright and you should be seeing fields of smaller stars where there are the grey areas but they're eaten up by compression because the compression algorithm knows that it's so dark that those details wouldn't be visible anyway, so when you brighten the picture, these compression artefacts are brought up along with some additional detail. This is an unfortunate side-effect of doing colour correction on a compressed source but until the blu-rays come out, this is about the best source there is.
I'm not denying that it's a mistake on my part, because I could have simply not brightened it so much but I didn't notice it until after the final encode and didn't think it a big enough issue to go through the whole encoding ordeal again, because like I said, it's just a few shots.
