Whereas I thought it worked great for Firefly considering they're the descendants of earthlings (meaning they actually have cows, horses, and the Old West in their history), and it made some sense that settlers on the border planets would be poor and forced into a subsistence lifestyle, having to raise their meat and get around without the benefit of vehicles.
