As it stands it is a better movie than all of the others. There are some slight inconsistencies but also a few nods and winks to the other films.

Agreed. I loved it. I liked the first X-Men film quite a bit actually; the second one was okayish but also kind of awful; the third was just plain awful, though I really liked the cast in all of them.

But this new one was really good. Though to be honest, I didn't feel some characters were casted as well, and I kind of hated how the end sets up all the pieces neatly so we can flash forward many years to the first X-Men film. Wouldn't have hurt to leave room for sequels.

I did like how they mostly kept continuity with the originals too. It was like a reboot, only with 50 times the continuity as Star Wars and its prequels.
