In some cases, more information can be obtained by analyzing the obscure than by observing the obvious.
Ie. In some cases, looking at the conpiracy theories may make the truth stand out.
Maybe the theorists know more than we do.
Ever read Hitchhikers Guide? Maybe the world is crazy and the few people we think are mad are the truly sane........
