In fact Vader seems so evil that Palpatine comes off as the good guy in this scene, informing a man of his dead wife without waiting to be asked. I like the open mouth expression Palpatine has. It's like even he doesn't believe how far Vader has fallen. The evil laugh at the end now makes more sense. He is pleased with his unexpected success.
This is exactly what I wanted to express with this cut : )
