I have 1080p versions of both the old CGI cliff transfer and the new (2009), non-CGI cliff transfer of RAIDERS.

The new one looks fantastic, much better than the DVD and its HD equivalent.
That's awesome! And I love that the CGI one is the "old transfer"! LOL

Well, the rumour was that the 2003 DVDs were gonna have the CGI cliff but the South Park episode 'Free Hat' made Spielberg reconsider!

EDIT: I found some comparitve screencaps illustrating the difference between the two transfers:

Any chance you could send over a copy of the new 2009 transfer please?

I'd be happy to. Its about 10GB (mkv format), however, so I'd have to split it over 3 discs.

Its worth noting that I'm in Australia and it could take a coupla weeks to get there.

Alternatively, you could try downloading it yourself. The version you want is:

"Raiders.of.the.Lost.Ark.1981.1080p.HDTV.x264-W23"

It should be easy enough to find some links to use with Jdownloader or I could PM some to you if you'd prefer.

Lemme know!

Oh, and if you need a 1080p file of that CGI shot, just say the word.

I've got that article thanks mate.

Spent the afternoon working out how I can do this project in HD with the resources I've got. Snore.

Griff, not sure what I need yet! Will probably be in touch though.

Fair enough. I guess if your final product is gonna be 720p, you may as well down-convert your RAIDERS source to 720p prior to working with it. It'll be a lot less demanding than 1080p.

I got the Raiders stand alone DVD through the mail this morning. Some good little 'new' snippets amongst those special features.

nerfherders anonymous was a site which keeped track of references to SW and other Lucasfilm projects, there's also a section about 'reverse references' or influences.  the Indy films are listed at the bottom:

http://www.nerf-herders-anonymous.com/2001/07/reversereferences.html

Some are vague, others more specific.  For example:

For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943) - (Dir: Sam Wood) Even their leather jackets were similar (though Indy's without the wool collar).

imdb.com has their 'Connection' page:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082971/movieconnections

Which lists tv programs/movies which reference Indy, in this case.

These maybe a little too tangential:

The History Channel had a program called "Indiana Jones and the Ultimate Quest" when the last movie came out.  More of a doc where archeologist and historians talk about the memes in the films as they relate to real world archeology.

IMDB listing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1236395/

Online version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUsmI0NLkS4

When looking for this program came across this wiki, which could yield more things:  http://indianajones.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Also have come across Ford interviews on youtube.

CNN Interview Mark Mangini, Richard Anderson, and Stephen Hunter on Sound fx of Raiders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-A2imGs7Ls  (Great behind the scenes shots and interview with production crew)  Actually uploaded by Mark Mangini, 2 weeks ago - so check through his library send him an e-mail!

Jambe,

i still have a TON of indy stuff that I haven't gotten out there.  I mean, literally hours upon hours of stuff.  Most of it is from Last Crusade and Crystal Skull but there is some Temple of Doom stuff.  Very little Raiders (if any) that I can recall.  For some reason, it doesn't seem like a lot was done for it...or archived.

There was very little released on raiders but there is tons of stuff in the Lucasfilm archives and it is ridiculous they squeezed four films into a small book.

When Star Wars gets a whole book for each film.

Rinzler should have done a good book on Raiders as big as Making of Star Wars.

The fact they wasted page space on Crystal Skull is beyond me, different series of films, different era and style of moviemaking.

Would be like squeezing the making of the prequels and the original star wars trilogy into a single book.

Now back to the topic at hand, i think Lucas destribes his inspiration for the series in the making of temple of doom documentary and even spielberg talks about all those old movie serials.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

none - Thanks - good to know. Also, I've got those first two youtube vids. Cool ones aren't they. Thanks for the others. I will check them out.

digitalfreaknyc - Would you be able to send me the stuff you have please? I am happy to provide you with discs and pay for postage.

none - My parents have bought the Amrstrong book for me for my birthday in a couple of weeks. I will read the articled on wired too. Thanks man!

skyjedi2005 - I agree that Raiders could have filled one book. I have ordered the 1981 novel sized making of book from Amazon too. Hopefully it will have some interesting info in there. Thanks for the heads up on the making of Doom doco. I will check it out.

You guys are fantastic! Thanks so much.

J

The Derek Taylor book has some nice b/w bts photos (poor quality though and you'd have to cut out the pages to scan them properly) and is written as a series of interviews. So in that sense its great for quotations. It's a great supplement to the Rinzler book, or vice-versa!

Vic Armstrong explains it differently in his book. Harrison Ford says it was his idea.

Reminds me of 3 blind men describing an elephant.

None of them has ever been able to say definitively who first suggested it.  To be honest, they've all pointed the finger at another.  Steven says it was Harrison.  Harrison has said it was George.  George has said it was Steven.  Who the hell knows.

Ok. So it looks like I need.

The Widescreen laser disc of Raiders
The original Making of Raiders (best quality available)
The Trilogy Best Buy DVD
ET Indiana Jones Behind The Adventure (YouTube)
Indy IV looks back at the Original Trilogy (YouTube)
Scans of the deleted scenes photos
Scans of the deleted scenes from the comic adaptation

Is anyone able to help?

Thanks for the link AvP but it would be great if someone would be kind enough to send me the DVDs.

Thanks
JD

If you still need scans from the comic, I have a very good copy of Marvel Super Special #18, which reprints the mini-series issues 1-3.

Hello there, a bit late to this party! I got 2 dvds of Indiana Jones collections off eBay 4 or 5 years ago. Are you still looking for the Making of Raiders without Japanese subtitles burned in? Because I can help you there. There are loads of clips mainly from Last Crusade times but included are MTV The Big Picture (Special edition!) Harrison Ford : The Last Crusader Where Harrison takes credit for the shooting the swordsman as his idea. Also not mentioned yet Great Adventurers and Their Quests: Indiana Jones and the last Crusade. Obviously mainly a promo for Indy III. Any Good?

I would love to get hold of some ADigitalMan Extended Editions if anyone can help out. Monty Python's Life Of Brian, Love Actually Bloated and Flatulent. Ta!
