And they tweaked things for the Blu-Ray, too (erasing cameras from mirrors and dudes standing by the side of the road that shouldn't have been there, and similar "fixes"), so that's not exactly a "reference release."

Are you talking the Evil Dead Blu-ray? Guess I'll keep my DVD copy.

The Tfners, the Lucas sycophants and the haters of the oot, that love the special editions and prequels have won.

No voice of reason or logic will they accept  as to why the original movie should be included or given their own proper separate release above these other garbage pieces of dung.

It is almost a slap in the face to oot fans not only are the theatricals not included but Luke is a ghost on the cover and little annie is featured prominently reinforcing the lie that star wars is darth vaders story and not from the adventures of Luke Skywalker.

It fills me with rage every time these idiots cheer on the destruction of my favorite films and think Lucas is justified.

This is your trial on the way to mythic hero.  Stay Tuned folks.  Does he take the quick and easy path?  Will he strike them down while showing no mercy?  Will he use his aggressive feelings?  Will he let go of his hate?  Or is his beloved Trilogy truly dead.  Stay Tuned, secrets revealed in an empty box which -+You Buy Now+- we'll give you the filled box answer sooooooon.

But seriously, take the informative thoughts you post periodically and combine them into an essay/opinion piece and release it just before blu-ray day.  Print out hundreds of copies and stick them under the windshield wipers of people going to buy the new set.

^^^ I think Frink was wondering whether anything in particular caused Sky's latest eruption.  We were probably just due for one...

What are the chances the new sound mix won't sound as bad as 2004's did, or that it will be from a new transfer for the 2004 special edition original trilogy films, or even have fixed colors, lightsabers corrected and the garbage mattes addressed, i mean is it zero.  Because if so i refuse to pre-order these even as a gift for someone who likes the 2004 versions.  Quality control must be zero at Lucasfilm these days, a damn shame indeed.

They hold no legal responsibility to fans though, only shareholders.

No difference from the studio system at all, except in the mind of a supposed artist and auteur who has ruined his own good films.

I may still get the set for the oot documentaries and deleted scenes, but i will never watch the 2004 set or the prequels i probably will give them to my nephew or older brother who does not care which version it is.

So the trick is to become a shareholder? How many shares does Lucas hold?

He is the chairman of the board so i imagine he is the majority shareholder.

He can write it into his will that the original films never see the light of say again, just as easily as he can put it into his will for no more star wars films, like say his kids wanted to cash in and make 7-9 with all new actors.

Though Katie Lucas is not sympathetic to the haters as she calls them and it is unlikely even if she was allowed to she would release the originals were she in fact the future head of LFL.

So no one sympathetic on the board. Didn't hurt to ask.

Funny thing is i thought the 1997 versions looked great when i was younger and i was a Lucas apologist back then, i mean of course the 1997 versions looked better if all you ever had was a set of pre THX pan and scan vhs tapes, since there was no dueling versions in theaters we cannot really say which version is preferred.  Since in 1997 the option of watching the originals  was not offered.

Though even in 1997 i thought the added Jabba scene was hideous, putting boba fett in a new hope dumb, and having greedo shoot beyond ridiculous as it makes no sense in Han Solo's character arc.

I always liked Bring my shuttle, more than alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival. in empire.  The wampa addition made the scene in the wampa cave less mysterious or frightening, i had no attachment to yub yub in jedi or lapti nek, but Jedi rocks was horrible even then.

I'm not sure Lucasfilm is a publicly traded company though.

It's not, he doesn't have to answer to anybody.

And yet... we are still where we were 10 years ago. And another 10 years of deterioration for the film elements. What's the point anymore?

This has likely been mentioned already so I'm wondering whether CG Yoda will be incorporated into TPM this time like what we saw on the ROTS DVD Special Features.  Just didn't feel like scrolling through 100+ pages for the answer I seek that's all! ;)

I don't believe a CGI Yoda has been officially announced but it's a strong expectation, based on that scene in the ROTS Special Features.

The PBS tv special about Star Wars in Concert confirmed CGI Yoda in TPM.

Those attending the upcoming dates at the Hollywood Bowl will probably see some of the new shots.

PvGL blog post (the comment there saddens me)

There's also a more recent post about the changes to THX-1138.

Enjoying the SE doesn't make you an apologist, it might just make you a casual fan. I mean for cryin' out loud, not everyone who is okay with the situation necessarily agrees with it (let alone cares.)

The bad ps2 quality cartoon added cgi ruined THX 1138.

Are the only films Lucas does not want to tinker with on DVD only his shitty films, like More American Graffiti, or Box office bombs like howard the duck or willow, tucker the man and his dream etc.

I mean he did not add CGI to the Ewok movies, yet he did alter the cartoons of droids and ewoks, he altered young indy too.

The Indiana Jones trilogy better get new transfers for blu ray with no color changes, no dvnr and no digital altering of the picture, but Lucash will probably just dump the old HD transfers onto disc like he is doing with star wars.

Indiana Jones has been updated actually! Check it out here. The new transfer doesn't have the CG addon, either. I would say it objectively looks far better (new screens on the left.)

It also looks like the grain and original color timing are back in the new scan, the other transfer looks overly dark.

Which begs the question why did the Indy trilogy get new scans, but not star wars trilogy 2004.

Did Paramount or Spielberg do it.  I think Lucas would have thought the old master is good enough since it was in 1080P.
