I wonder if it would be possible to find the individual with the broadcast digi beta tape for star wars episode IV a new hope special edition, and if they still have the tape do a new modern transfer of it on a new better capture card or method.

Highly unlikely.  I know.

When was the last time they broadcast the 1997 versions, didn't ady say they did sometime ago in the UK, they showed one of the three films in SD from 1997 and the other 2 in HD from 2004.   I am not sure but i think it was ROTJ.

There are a few DVB transfers of these seems like.  What ones are there, reivax, flunk, TB, and gkar.  And not complete sets for all.

Reivax and Flunk are just episode IV i believe.

Not sure which is the Canal+ broadcasts maybe the TB.

The reivax is better than the LD but some scenes are a little too dark, like the scene where Owen talks to threepio at the droid auction.

You really like the Special Edition , don't you?  bad joke

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

You are right sky, the TB and GKar have all 3 films, Reivax and Flunk, only ANH.

Is there a copy of that '97 RoTJ floating around? Did anyone record it, or do we only know of it?

They broadcast episodes 4 & 5 1997 SE version on ITV1 a couple of years ago but they switched to the 2004 version of ROTJ because ITV HD had just started and they wanted to show it in HD. The 1997 versions were cropped though to 16:9 to fill the screen so weren't really any good to archive.

Oh. That's unfortunate. Thanks.

It's unfortunate there is just no good copies of the 1997 SE anywhere. The Flunk version is about the best there is for ANH, while still having problems. ESB and ROTJ, seem to be even worse due to few sources.

Shame really, ESB deserves better really. The 1997 SE version is my favourite version of them all, and there just isn't a source available that does the PQ and AQ justice, so I can totally understand why d_j wants to mix and match sources for all of them.

I just skimmed through the whole G'Kar Jedi and the smearing is unbelievably bad on that one throughout, even in the brighter scenes, which is unusual. And I think it is DVNR because from what I read, the TB version has less smearing but more dirt and grain.

I'd take dirt and grain over DVNR any day! But does the TB version suffer from compression artefacts?

Keep up the good work Dark Jedi! I have been eagerly following this thread since I first registered to become a member as I like the '97SE just as much as the OOT! I had both versions on VHS as a kid and I used to enjoy being able to choose whether I watched the films with or without the enhancements.

@Harmy I don't think many people have seen the TB version as its the rarest of all the DV Broadcasts. :(

Might have something to do with the set being traded had crc erros and could not copy.

Niether Russ or Rikter could salvage the discs, but dark jedi somehow got a hold of copies that worked ?

By the way the TB release is not just the 1997 special edition un-original trilogy but also the fourth film they did was phantom menace.

However this group was disappeared or disbanded since they did not do releases of attack of the clones or revenge of the sith.  Phantom's broadcast was sought after for one reason theatrical cut, quality is worse than the official DVD, and even inferior to most laserdisc rips.

Makes sense there is no clones or sith though because no broadcast exists of the theatrical cuts.  Only Bootlegs.

I could not rip my DVD's(TB & Gkar) I got from Russ on any of my DVD burners, I was about to toss them in the garbage, but then I thought why not try and rip them with my Blu-ray burner, and guess what, it read them just fine, so that is how I got them.

and none of my discs I got from Russ had any CRC errors, as far as I know there is NO way around that, they may play fine, but not rip.

1 more thing, the TB version is just as fucked up as the Gkar version is I am pretty sure, I will have to look them over again, but neither of them were used as my source, the Flunk version was, but then I took snippets from the Reivax, TB and Gkar to fill in, at least for ANH.

I have the TB Phantom Menace also LOL.

How goes this project?  I would be interested in seeing this come to fruition.

I just clicked on both of those in an attempt to download them manually, but the links go to pages saying that "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." Does it work for anyone else?

I was able to download the second file but Stuffit expander could not uncompress it.

I put up an alternate link to part 1, and these are rar files.

Just watched the clip and it looks great. It's a little grainy but that is to be expected considering the source.

The clip looks very nice. Vibrant colors and not over-contrasted. I was able to download using Google Chrome and extract with WinRAR. This is the laserdisc right? I suppose it's better than the broadcasts since there's no annoying smearing; after all, the laserdiscs were top notch and didn't you already IVTC them?
