368 pages is a lot to read before posting.
Don't worry, a lot of it probably isn't important (moreso on the ESB:R thread)
The little comedy moments added to the SE at the beginning of the Mos Eisley scene (the probe droid getting hit by the landspeeder and the Jawa falling off the Ronto) really shouldn't have been removed. If the fims were meant to be that dry then the mouse droid scene on the Death Star should have been cut as well.
At the same time though, if the films were meant to be that silly, then some equivalent scene would have existed prior to the Special Edition. The little droid and the ronto were 1997 additions which Ady (and frankly, most of us) found to be ridiculous and overly silly. Chewie's scene with the mouse droid is in keeping with his character, but do we really need extra silly stuff in the background?
And I honestly think someone somewhere should do something about Leia's British accent when she meets Tarkin. What's all that about?
It's the formal accent of a Senator working in her official capacity, talking to an officer. Compare with the Padme/Amidala voice changes, as much as I hate to bring the Prequels into this.
And for Christ's sake, someone needs to make the TIE fighter that they follow to the Death Star move around a bit. The thing just hangs there in the window of the Falcon. This has bothered me since I was a little kid. Wouldn't it dodge, or maneuver in some way? The thing practically looks like its painted on the window.
I always figured it was moving in a fairly straight and thus quick line towards the Death Star. The Falcon's not shooting yet, so why dodge?
The Dianoga sure makes a lot of interesting dinosaur type noises, considering that its underwater the whole time.
I always took the biggest of its noises to be some sort of door closing, down below, prior to compression.
The explosion of the last of the four pursuing TIE fighters after the escape from the Death Star is far too dramatic. Its better than the Death Star explosion. This should be redone to be not so huge.
Yeah, that thing is huge. It fits with the movie emotionally though, so I'm going to say the best bet is to really fix the Death Star explosion.
Does anyone know how the Death Star propels itself? it has no engine ports anywhere, yet it seems to go where they want it to. Maybe some propulsion exhaust effects somewhere as it pulls up to Yavin?
I always figured it has lots of comparatively small engines that don't show up in distance shots?
I love the addition of the Imperial March throughout the movie, especially in the new Death Star reveal shot and when the TIEs appear at Yavin, but there is a big section of the trench battle with no music. That is where Vader comes into the foray, yet his theme is not there.
Not every scene should have music - Perhaps the silence fits better.
The Death Star explosion is puny compared to the one of the aforementioned TIE fighter. Swapping them might help. The TIE keep on exploding, like something big with a reactor. In comparison the DS is a little pop.
I'm not a fan of the Stargate-lifted explosion in ANH:R, either. Hoping for a really big, custom-rendered one in A:R:SE ... preferably without any Praxis-ring. (Same goes for ROTJ:R)
Luke stills yells "Carrie!" when he first sees her upon his return
No, he doesn't and he never has. He yells "HEY" or something like that.
The rest of your points are either good or something that I don't know much about. Welcome aboard!
