I'm back with more discoveries :-)

As per use, top original, bottom SE.

Wha? The TIEs I can understand, but why/how did they move the camera in his cockpit?!

Yeah, that's pretty bizarre . Anyway, if you want to add it, it's the shot where he says he lost his starboard engine.

Author
Time

Oh, I'll be adding it. Not sure when as I want to see this for myself before I do. So bizarre!

Yeah, you should really take the pics from your Wookiegroomer source, because I took those pictures while I was experimenting with the colours, so they're pretty screwed up.

Jambe Davdar is interesting in doing a commentary with me regarding the making of the movies and the SEs. However, I'm going to need a comprehensive list of what information on the SEs there are. I have ILM: Into the Digital Realm, which has a chapter on making the SE. There's Anatomy of a Dewback on the site.

Is there really any other official source, or unofficial I need to know about? Really, the most information on the internet I'm sure is on this thread, thanks to you guys!

We haven't worked out the details, but besides Revisited and Begins, the 04 SE is all I have! We also have to work out PAL vs NTSC... I'd like to give myself a couple months to actually get facts instead of our assumptions in this thread.

But you should know by now, that you can't actually get facts from official sources - they're bullshitting us all the time ;-)

You should also try PMing Zombie, he did a lot of research on the SEs.

So funny. I'm watching that SE documentary from the thread I linked to before and when they talk about the snow battle, they show you the shot from inside the cockpit of Luke's speeder flying under the AT-AT from the original version and point out how it's transparent and then go on to talk about how they recomped all those shots in a computer and "eliminated all the transparency" and then they show you the same shot from the SE, which is darker and bluer but just as transparent as the original. Heck of a job there (on both the SE and the doc) :-D

And perhaps the funnies thing is when they say that the ultimate goal of the Jabba scene was to make it look like Jabba was there on that set and they just photographed it. Comic gold :-)

I was just watching that as well. I love the parts where they're like "look, here is what a matte line is: BIG ARROW ON RANCOR", then they don't fix it for another 7 years.

So I emailed Lowry, Ycm Laboratories, ILM, and Rinzler this weekend asking if they could tell me anything extra about the SEs. Unfortunately, the one company I really wanted to know more from would be Pacific Titles, which doesn't exist anymore.

I must say, having just watched the GOUT version of Empire, that you can't really see the transparency (unless you really really look for it) in the unaltered version of the shot anyway.

Yeah, of course, they had to make compromises but the FX were still awesome and most of them still hold up very well.

Harmy's point was that the making of the SE brags about a shot they didn't really fix, not like some of the other shots.

Added Harmy's recent discoveries to the gallery.

I actually sent the galleries to ILM to see if they could give me any input. I don't expect a response. ;-)

Good to hear it's updated :-)

Just a little nitpick, the shot when Han destroys the tie-fighter actually has the tie missing for the 1st 2 frames.

EDIT: I thought it said 1st frame but I see it actually says a few frames, so ignore me ;-)

Oh, and the Luke hologram in ROTJ is still missing commentary.

And it would be awesome, if ILM actually got back to you. But yeah, I wouldn't really expect them to :-(

Can't say I've ever noticed it, even after 30 years of watching TESB.

After they pointed it out in the bonus features I always looked for it.

Yeah, it's true, I'd also never noticed it until it was blatantly pointed out to me in that doc.
