I am surprised you didn't list the ending. I do not understand why they left Sisko in limbo.
You met Garak!!!!! Jealous!!!!
And I agree with all of your comments. All of those moments were really stupid.
Doesn't stop me from loving Deep space Nine though. Although I think
'Let he who is without sin' is the worst episode. I cannot stand that episode.

Haven't watched the review yet, but the updates to my inbox remind me that we need a better name for your show...

To answer bkev's comment, I watch DS9 on YouTube. A user named Irratonalys has the entire series uploaded in good quality. I do intend on purchasing the series at some point when I actually have money.
And, doubleofive, you don't like my name? ;_;

I could be cynical and casually plant the notion that Sisko went to rest with the Prophets in the finale because Sinclair, Sheridan and presumably Delenn did (sort of).

I never said that *I*make the candy. The reviews make the candy. If you aren't getting any candy, then obviously you just aren't believing hard enough. But, yeah, you're right. If I were to rename the show "Taste the Imagination Princess's Candy" I'm pretty sure I would get quite the following...

Just wanted to let you know. I watched your latest DS9 vid. I have a more detailed reply saved as a draft. Will post a little later when complete. FYI It'll be my first posted save draft post.

Watched review. Skipped the ones mentioning the finale and, season 7 Jake. I watched most of DS9 when it first aired but, was kind of off and, on during it's last season. Also, completely missed the finale. I'm watching DS9 now becuase, I got all of it as a gift. I remembered/found out what happened with Worf though. Since, he's my favourite TNG character. I just don't want spoilers on stuff I either don't remember well/haven't seen.
That aside. I wholeheartedly agree about the treatment of Riker transporter-clone. Thomas has the worst luck in life. I would've liked it if in Death Wish eppy Q instead brought Thomas there and, he stayed there on Voyager. I mean Harry was the one most crap got piled on there. He'd act as a buffer for Thomas I'm sure. Janeway wouldn't off him since, she seemed to respect Riker.
Also, during my rewatch of that Cardassian science officer eppy I kind of got distracted via the fact that it's Captain Lockley from Babylon 5 under that makeup. I was getting a snack during the credits so I was like "That's LOCKLEY! No it isn't Lockley." In my head all throughout rewatching it. After the eppy I confirmed my suspicions. That said, even distracted, I thought that it was a really bad move to turn it into an alien mating ritual thingy. Essentially I agree with you.
Re: Trill Punishment it's also contradictory to the earlier TNG Trill eppy. Where Dr. Crusher was all ready and, willing to continue on the relationship through three hosts IIRC. Only thing that stopped it was Dr. Crusher couldn't see past the new woman host to the person she lusted over. No mention of possible death. None of that. It's also hypocritical that Dax's friendships like Sisko are okay to be carried over but, not romantic entanglements. I mean c'mon the society's going to sentence them to death for falling in love, again, in brand new hosts, looking completely beyond the physical. However, you want your casual friends to stay by you. Oh sure go right ahead! He can even visit the sacred pool area thingy. Kind of puts the whole Trill-symbiont institution in a new light. I mean they say "we don't have enough symbionts for the population that are compatible." Then, "Yeah, we death sentence the Trill symbionts who retain their previous lovers... What? Why you looking at me like that?"
Yes the Kai thing was poorely handled. At the time of initial airing I just excepted it though... I was a kid... Yes that's my excuse er, reason!
Valiant um, no comment. I simply haven't watched that episode in full yet. I missed it's initial airing and, only watched your review of it. I also missed profit and, lace... Um, will I see two bad episodes at the same time or, will I just skip them again? That is the question...
I'de seriously like your oppinion on this matter.
Worf and, Quark escaping punishment. I kind of get the feeling of executive meddling there. I don't know why but, I do... Gut feeling is all.
RE: Worf deadbeat dad. I'm a bit ambivalant about this myself.
As for what I personally feel is the lowest DS9 moment. I disagree with you only because I know more about the behind the scenes. I feel DS9's lowest moment is what started it in the first place. They essentially ripped off JMS's Babylon 5 pitch and, shoehorned it into the Star Trek universe. JMS comments on why he didn't sue paramount:
(Interviewers in bold)
Well, in the process of shopping the series(B5). Everybody knows the story about you(JMS) approaching Paramount. Knowing that they had Star Trek, why go to Paramount? Why bring them another space opera type story?
"Well the thought at the time was, because they had that corner of science fiction universe covered. That they might be the best place to go. Also they were trying to put together their own network at the time. Uh, and they had a good block(?) of syndication. They were the big guns. You always go to the big guns first. They were doing other shows beyond Star Trek. You know for syndication and, they seemed like the likely choice. And we gave them the material um, everything. The treatment, the pilot script, the artwork, all that stuff. There were executives(?) in the back. That mentioned that the 2 guys that had 'a new show' was gonna be up at a big exhibition thing in san francisco. They were gonna look at some of this themselves to get some suggestions. Just look at it in general and, they first came back very interested. Suddenly out of nowhere 'uh, no! We're gonna pass!' Which surprised me because, we knew they were interested. Very interested in pursuing it and, well we figured that's, that. Went off elsewhere and, um we're kind of surprised another show comes up. On a spacestation, with a um gambling area, casinos, and a bar, ambassadors, and trade going on. Um there'd never been a show like that preceeding 16 years of television 2 suddenly come out the same time. Seemed curious to us."
So given that how much credence to you put to the fan urban legend that Paramount wholly ripped off B5? Just kept the property enough to make their own notes and, then said "no." Then made stuff from your notes.
"Well, I put it in two terms *sigh*. First off again if you look at the two starting points side by side. Male captian, female second in command, a big casino-like area, a bar, ambassadors, trading, on a spacestation. Which had a shapeshifter in it's pilot. Um it's kind of hard not to see a corrilary there. I was in my office one day and, Peter Jurasik came in and, said 'do you know?' Mentioned one of the cast members from Deep Space Nine. I said 'I'm familiar with him I don't know him personally but, I know this person.' Said 'Well, I saw him at a party last night. He wanted me to give you a message.' I said 'Okay, other then "screw you" what's the message?' He said 'we know that our show came from your show. We wish you all the luck.'"
Really?!
-Wow
"Uh-huh and, um those are the only two points I think are worth making."
Wow
"I will say that I discussed a big lawsuit with Warner Bros. but, they were concerned. That if I did that both shows would end up in litigation and, neither show would get anywhere. So they overruled that and, I could not pursue without them. So that was the end of that."
Source podcast part 1 Part 2
***Possible B5 spoilers in podcast***
So essentially the credits should read "Based upon Babylon 5 created by J. Michael Straczynski". So yeah I do think this beats out a bad episode. The fact that it's a rip-off of B5. That said I still like both shows and, JMS himself is also a Star Trek fan. In fact in 2004 he approached Paramount again proposing a prequel tv show. That showed how Kirk and, his crew met. That certainly turned out alright now didn't it?
FYI: The main reason I saved this as a draft is because, I had to find that podcast again and, type the relevant parts up... So now I test this draft thingy to see if it works.
So that's my response. Hope it's comment worthy enough for you!

Oh, yeah. Crap. I didn't realize you hadn't seen it at all. I hope I didn't spoil anything for you. But, honestly, though, the one about the finale, assuming you know what happens to Jadzia in season 6, and you already know what happens to Worf, doesn't really contain any spoilers. But, yeah, you should definitely stay away from "Season 7 Jake."

Heh, nothing really for me to comment on other than, "I agree with you agreeing with me!"
Re: Trill Punishment it's also contradictory to the earlier TNG Trill eppy. Where Dr. Crusher was all ready and, willing to continue on the relationship through three hosts IIRC. Holy crap! I didn't even think about that TNG episode! You're right. This is a little bit off topic, but I'm sure you know that the altered the Trill makeup for DS9 due to Terry Farrell's sensitive skin. But I think it would have been nice if they'd included some Trill who resembled the one we saw in TNG. It would help explain away some of the inconsistencies if it was just said that there are different races of Trill who look different and react to the symbiont in different ways.
And, yeah, I always thought it was hypocritical that she couldn't "rejoin" with Lenara, but it was perfectly fine that she could keep her best friend. I thought about mentioning that, but I figured the video was long enough already. =P
I guess I should say that I really do enjoy the episode overall. In fact, most of the moments I mention come from episodes that are otherwise pretty competent.
It's hard for me to say, honestly. Not that I really have my finger on the pulse of general DS9 opinion, but it does seem that my opinion on the matter is somewhat aberrant to the norm. Profit and Lace almost always seems to top worst DS9 episodes lists, but I've never seen Valiant on one. I don't think I can explain why I dislike Valiant more than I already have. As for Profit and Lace, I suppose part of it will come in how much you enjoy/appreciate the Ferengi episodes to begin with. If you already don't care for them, I don't see Profit and Lace being the one that's going to win you over, and you'll probably hate it even more than the other Ferengi episodes. But I do like those episodes, and I do like that it helps tie up the Moogie sexual revolution plot line. I probably agree with the makers of the episode that it goes a little bit too far into the camp, gender-bender slapstick routine and maybe deserved to be a little more serious. But I'm honestly a fan of gender-bending plotlines to begin with, so I found it a really funny piece of fluff. Had the entire Moogie subplot been nothing but that, I probably wouldn't have liked it. But as just a silly episode of Quark as a woman fending off amorous advances with just a hint of family issue subtext, I think it works okay.
Worf and, Quark escaping punishment. I kind of get the feeling of executive meddling there. I don't know why but, I do... Gut feeling is all.
Hmm, I don't know if I'd call it "executive meddling" other than the writers sorta backing themselves into a corner. Particularly with the Quark example. You can't NOT have him on the show, so... I guess just sweep it under the rug and hope no one notices. And once again, I did like this episode. I pretty much like anything that explores the Trills.
As for Worf, I'd probably have to just chalk it up to not having enough time to deal with it while wrapping up the series, and the whole issue of them having multiple writers working on this long story arc. That's why I would have given it a pass probably if not for the Klingon fans jumping all over me for me daring to question their laws. =P
RE: Worf deadbeat dad. I'm a bit ambivalant about this myself.
In a way, I am too. They certainly earn big points for EVENTUALLY bringing Alexander back and acknowledging that Worf had screwed up. Those episodes were good. And if Worf had never been a character on TNG, and this was the first we'd seen of him, I also probably wouldn't have called it a stupid idea--just an interesting character flaw. I guess I just objected to building all this up over on TNG only to completely flip-flop Worf when he got to DS9.
Heh, what makes you think I wasn't aware of that already? You assume too much. I know about all the controversy. But I don't really know anything about Babylon 5 enough to make that judgment for myself. I've never even seen Babylon 5. So I don't think it would be fair of me to comment on it. If I was a Babylon 5 fan, and the theft is true, I probably would be pissed. But I don't really have a suitable frame of reference, other than just the general knowledge and statements from JMS.
So that's my response. Hope it's comment worthy enough for you!

Oh, yeah. Terry Farrell's skin is so sensitive that she apparently can't be in direct sunlight for very long, so prosthetic makeup was right out. But it was apparently a very big problem when they did "Let He Who Is Without Sin" since they had to be on a beach. And that's also why, in "Rocks and Shoals," where they're marooned on that desert/beach planet that Jadzia is immediately injured and has to lie around in the cave set... so they wouldn't have to get her outside.

On my watch of Deep Space Nine in it's entirety. Something happened in the story that I thought wouldn't ever happen in it. Something that shocked me. Something I practically yelled at my tv at for. They destroyed the Defiant!!!! WTF!!! That ship's in First Contact!!! How does that make sense!?!? Doesn't that take place after DS9!?? I thought it'd survive all the way!!!! Bastards!!!!! Then a few episodes later it gets replaced... *facepalm* Then I find out via internet First Contact is supposed to take place during DS9... *double facepalm*

Yeah, I'm not sure why I didn't include the Defiant's destruction. Or at least its immediate replacement. I do recall being upset and shocked when it was destroyed (which was a good thing), but then rolling my eyes when they immediately brought in a new one. The writers even admitted they wanted to have it both ways: shock and awe by destroying it but still needing to have it in the final battle. I guess I couldn't feel too bothered about it simply because... it happens all the damned time in Star Trek! Still, I kinda wish they'd at least kept the name Sao Paulo, just so it could seem like it might not be the exact same ship, same model, same set.
Also, I find myself quite humored that you didn't realize that First Contact is set during DS9. So is Insurrection, actually. During season 5 and season 7, respectively. If you pay attention, there are a few episodes early in season 7 where Worf doesn't appear, and that's apparently supposed to make it believable that he could be with the Enterprise during the timeframe of Insurrection.
You hated Take Me Out to the Holosuite?! I love that episode so, so, so much (which probably explains why I used footage from it so heavily in my video)! DEATH TO THE OPPOSITION!
But, yes, "forced" is exactly how I would describe "Valiant." I actually ended up cutting a line from the script to my Valiant video saying that it reminded me of a Three's Company script. There's a wacky misunderstanding/poor communication that anyone with two brain cells could easily resolve, but they don't, and that's how we have conflict. Only in this case we're actually supposed to take it seriously.
And finally, I am also humored that you extrapolated what about "Season 7 Jake" I was referring to. Glad I could make your imagination dance! =P

Yeah, First Contact takes place during season 5 of DS9. I remember well seeing the movie in the theatre at the same time the show was being broadcast--it was the first year I was really getting into Star Trek. Episodes from earlier seasons I had to catch in re-runs and there are still a good number I've never seen. As soon as I finish Chuck season 3, Deep Space Nine is going on my list and this time I'm going to start from the beginning and watch the entire series. I love the show more than I can say, though I go long periods of time without thinking about it. It might be my favourite of all the Star Trek series, though Next Generation is awesome too.
Actually, I kind of wish they had done more to connect DS9 with First Contact. There could have been a scene where the decision to send the Defiant with Worf in command was made, and more discussion of what effects the Borg attack had on the Federation's strategic capabilities. There is a passing mention of this at one point (In Purgatory's Shadow, I think), but it could have been more involved. And given that the Defiant was heavily damaged in the film (didn't seem to do so well considering that fighting the Borg is what it was originally designed for!), it being out of commission for repairs could have been a plot point, as in 'Gee, sure wish our kickass ship were around so we could foil this evil plot over there!'
Ah well. I seriously love the Defiant, it's so cool to see them have a ship that just blows away everything else and has a cloaking device. About damn time the Federation got to play on those terms . . .
They had to name the Defiant back so they could the use stock footage they already had. :-/

Well even though I am a Star Trek fan I just don't know exactly when everything is supposed to take place in the universe. Also as a kid I simply wasn't interested in the TNG movies becuase, I liked the motion picture better. For some reason I forget the only Star Trek movies I wanted to see was TMP and, the one with the whales. Other Star Trek movies just didn't interest me beyond those two at the time. After Voyager ended I got interested in seeing more Star Trek movies. Hence confusion about exactly when everything is supposed to take place. I supoose that fed into my shock. I mean forgetting the multitude of times that Diana kissed bearded Riker for a joke line in Insurrection is one thing. Forgetting you already destroyed an entire ship would be on another level of continuity fuck up.
TMOTTH um hate is a strong word. I just don't like it. The "TMOTTH um, 0 just, no, NO!" was just for luls.
Yeah, "season 7 jake" being on the bottom list definitely got my imagination going. Thanks.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
