the whole thing is depressing, frustrating, infuriating, and pisses me off. Why is it of movie series, it has to be Star Wars that this happens to? Why couldn't this instead have happened to the Robo Cop series? Why is it so many people can realize and understand the logic behind releasing a director's/special/extended edition AND the original edition?

The frustrating is actually Lucas has created this fan rift between which version you love more, where it never had to get like this.
you bet he did. For proof of this, just look at the original series of Star Trek. A few years ago, they redid the special effects and whatnot. Is there any big rift between Star Trek fans as to which version is better? No. Why? because both versions are readily available to watch. Both versions are on blu-ray. Unlike Lucas, they didn't do an ego trip and try and erase the originals from existence. THEY LET THE FANS DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES. Why can't Lucas grasp that simple logic? Why has Lucas decided to take Star Wars away from my generation and give it to the generation of the late 90's and early 2000's? Why Lucas have to be so stupid and stubborn? If Lucas had done things right, the DVD and blu-ray releases of the Star Wars saga, could have been the biggest DVD and blu-ray releases ever. Instead they are an afterthought to me. When I think of what could have and should have been, it just pisses off. It also saddens me that I my 5 year niece and (if a miracle should happen) my future children won't be able to see Star Wars like I saw it. Heck, if the OOT was given the respect it deserves, I might even grow to like the SE and PT a little better. But as it is now, I can't look at the SE and PT without thinking about how shitty the original Star Wars fans are being treated. When I was kid, I worshiped at the alter of Lucas. He was a hero and genius and god, because he created this great Star Wars universe. But now, I hate the guy. I hate his guts and have fantasies of kicking his ass(but I would never do it and do not advocate violence). He is just the enemy to me. Its very sad that is had to happen to Star Wars it was all preventable by Lucas. There is not much more to say except that I will refuse to give Lucas any of my money not only for Star Wars, but any of his products. I am not even sure that would change even if he did finally release the OOT in the way it deserves. That is how angry I am with Lucas.
P.S. even those who disagree dramatically on political issue, are on the same side here. That should tell you something.
