Spirited Away. A classmate reminded me of it the other day and I just had to see it again. I'd forgotten just how beautiful the movie is, it's Miyazaki's best.

Conquest was the first Apes movie I saw. I still like it best of the sequels for the ideas presented and bits of verite style. The original ending is much better.
And the new Rise of the Planet of the Apes will definitely suck. I'm not even much of a Apes fan, but it looks like standard end of the world CGI action that just happens to have "Planet of the Apes" in the title. Really infuriating. Well, it can't be worse than the remake...can it?

I'm only going to tell you this once, because I don't really want to be the grammar guy all of the time...
But you can use the same "remove the other person, how would I say it trick" with possessives just like other pronouns.

Therefore: I ordered Mrs 5's and my tickets...

I like them all, even Battle for... to some degree. But I think Beneath... is pretty low on the pole. No Roddy, (practically) no Charlton. And the bald psychics are gross.
1 and 3 are my faves. Though I'm sure this is the third for eighth* time I've said that on these forums.

Oh! Did I win something? Well, maybe someone else can learn to use it correctly- but without the shame of having made the mistake or having the Forum Jerk point it out.

Watched Thor 3d last night at midnight.
Visually, it was amazing. Amazing fight scenes, awesome costumes and decor, beautiful imagery. And the special effects were so freakin cool it was unreal. The shots of the stars and galaxies and such on Asgard were just breathtaking.
Chris Hemsworth is also awesome. It's not Shakespeare, but I was surprised at how well he carried the movie.
Other than that it sucked. The story was alright, but I just never got really invested in anything enough to care about it. Thor was an arrogant ass and all of a sudden stops being an arrogant ass and becomes the hero. What happened to make him change? Did I miss something?
And the love story between him and Natalie Portman was so hamfisted I felt like I was having it shoved down my throat every time I watched a scene with her. Which really sucks because I sorta love Natalie so I was looking forward to seeing her rock in this movie. She was hardly in it!
In fact, they could have taken everything about humans/Earth out of the story and it probably would have made it a much better movie. Maybe they felt that they needed human characters and an Earth setting to make it more relatable but that's just a huge mistake. Relatable characters aren't relatable because of where they live, but because of who they are. And in the end, we didn't really get any of that from Thor. It really feels like the movie was written by the entire boardroom of Marvel/Paramount instead of just Branagh and his crew. It's like they didn't even care that it was sloppy.
I enjoyed myself, but it wasn't easy. Still looking forward to Captain American and Green Lantern, however.
A few parts that really bugged me [SPOILER ALERT]:
His group of buddies from Asgard were pointless and dumb, and the sarcastic human chick who hung around with Portman was even more pointless. What were they thinking?
The scene where the giant-fire-robot-thing was tearing shit up and Thor says "I have a plan" and walks out to it, and the music starts to swell, and he says something corny and obvious about taking his life instead of theirs. Just stupid. Lame.
Towards the end he addresses the S.H.I.E.L.D. guy and says something like "We fight on the same side... so... I'll join your team!" It could've waited for the Avengers movie. It was clearly just forced in there to make him part of the team already, but god it was so LAZY!
Then, I'm cringing just thinking about it, when he was saying goodbye to whats-her-name and said, "Deal?" ...I wanted to vomit in my popcorn. So, so bad.

I still regret that Kenneth Branagh wasn't cast as a slightly older Obi-Wan in Episode One.
With his directorial experience, he probably would have ended up being more like Harrison Ford in the sense that he would have taken more control over the role than assuming that the director knew what he was doing.
That's probably why he didn't get the part. Lucas didn't want actors to think for themselves. He just wanted puppets, basically

Saw Thor (in 2D - I refuse to see any movie in 3D unless it's shot that way) yesterday evening.
I absolutely loved it. I mean, at its core, it's a superhero movie, so it wasn't too terribly different from what's come before. And the scenes on Earth were kind of boring, saved only by Chris Hemsworth's great work as Thor and his rather charming chemistry with Natalie Portman (who is awesome in this, as usual).
What makes it particularly successful is Asgard and the other, non-Earth realms. It just looks fantastic, and Kenneth Branagh's background in directing Shakespeare really helps to sell the grandiosity necessary for the scenes to work. And man, do they work - I found myself, once the movie was over, wishing the entire movie had taken place on Asgard entirely.
Loki is easily one of the best of the Marvel movie universe villains, thanks primarily to a great, nuanced performance by Tom Hiddleston. You actually feel sympathy for him, and you kind of wouldn't mind if he won in the end. The film would not have been nearly as successful without him, and I'm eagerly awaiting his return in The Avengers.
Speaking of which, the presence of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson in Thor is nowhere near as distracting as his/Nick Fury's presence in Iron Man 2. My only problem with it was the inclusion of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye (from the upcoming Captain America) in one scene - his scenes were very clearly added in after the fact, and they're kind of distracting.
Bottom line - while it may not be the best of the Marvel flicks, Thor is certainly up there. I'd say it's better than Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk, but not as good as Iron Man.
I'm definitely a lot more excited for The Avengers now. Still don't care much about Captain America, but I'll give it a shot.
Interestingly, I just realized that I've seen all of the new Marvel movies in the theater on opening day. Guess that means I have to do the same for Captain America to keep the streak going...

Why is that? Not a big fan of the character, or is there something particular about this upcoming adaptation that turns you off?
Every 27th customer will get a ball-peen hammer, free!
Not a big fan of the character. I've never been a particularly gung-ho patriotic type of person, so the Captain never appealed to me all that much.
"Due Date."
Didn't care for it. Downey acted like he was in a serio-comedy, Galafriankis was in a goofy R-rated farce, and it was shot like a drama. Nothing seemed to click.
Resident Evil: Afterlife
And I thought Blade Trinity had a lot of slow-mo...
Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.
