I was kind of hoping that those involved in gathering material for the blu-ray set might stumble across a copy in the archives or something.

Sorry I hate to bump this thread again...  But the thing is that LFL doesn't seem to like putting out the old documentaries as they were.  I really hope they change their mind and get this one and a lot of the other classic ones out at some point.  I don't recall any, of what I can see on DN's site at least, footage from this one in "Empire of Dreams", so I too really hope they at least have a copy of it.  If the bluray edition has no sign of this doc I vote you check back with your source Darth Neo to maybe finally put it out there for the world.

Tobor is robot spelled backwards.

That is just SPFX on youtube not the Parbot one.

Damn! You are correct. Sorry folks, I jumped the gun. Next time I should actually watch it before posting.

I called Sygma agency few weeks ago because they are selling some of their materials but they told me Michel Parbot did not want to have his SW documentary in their list.

I know a guy who told me he could show it to me if I'm in the LA area (not that case, I live in Europe) but swore to never copy it.

Well that f#$% documentary would remain in few people hands unless Uncle George includes it in the Blu Ray release.

Wanna bet Parbot owns the copyright and not Lucasfilm and they would have to pay him a pretty penny to sell the rights.

Something tells me he would not want that anyway since he does not want it shown, which is strange.

I mean its referenced in the making of book by Rinzler in like a single paragraph.

Making it available even through folks like the BBC or PBS in the USA would be ideal because of its educational value to film students, or to film history studies.

LFL has a copy in their own archives and usually LFL has the rights on any SW things.

I see so there must be a reason Lucas does not want it seen then.

Kind of like how he wishes a book like Skywalking would not have been made.

There is a guy named J. Joiner I guess that is managing G. Kurtz archives, after he was "banned" by GL about archives robbery or something like that, but I'm not sure they would share it with people.

Maybe Darth Neo would be willing to share it after all and not in a thumb sized video ?

tomorrow we will have the comprehensive content of the Blu-Ray discs ...

There could be some Parbot in it ...

If you've got some details from your phone conversations with Sygma then post it.  Otherwise leave this poor thread alone.

I'm in LA. If you're for real, hook me up with that guy who said he'd show you a copy and I'll go watch it.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Just a bump so that people don't forget to keep looking for this..

Huzzah! Hopefully, someday we will be able to see it, but just knowing it's been found is certainly good enough for now.

Well, they sing the same old song:

We managed to get a copy of it, thanks to a surprise source, but we were asked to not duplicate it.

Yeah, real bummer. All the teasing from the article good for nothing. I don't understand these people. I can understand that they want to respect the source's wish, but what is the point of teasing everyone else with something they can't get? I also don't get why the original source asks not to duplicate it. It would only make sense if there would be a commercial release in the future, but I doubt this will happen.

Has it ever been sorted out who actually owns this doc?

Given the shabby treatment of the other docs on the Blu Ray set, if someone is holding out for cash from Lucasfilm, they're in for a let down.

It's nice to see a glimpse at the pieces which haven't surfaced.  The unseen segments seem to focus on the SFX motion control group, and the end piece on Sound. (Burtt/Williams)  That might be a clue who's the supplier.  Wonder how detailed they explain the system.

thought this was phunnie:

Why is it that whenever someone has something rare and doesn't instantly make it available to everyone for free, they're pilloried as greedy hoarders? It'd be a shame if this degenerates into another flame thread, so I think this should be nipped in the bud right now.

I don't think they are holding it back for reasons of profit. If I had to guess, perhaps they and their source are worried about possible legal repercussions from Lucasfilm if they release it. The copyright notice at the end is to LFL. Knowing about how they've repossessed "stolen" film prints, it's probably wiser not to take chances.
