I'm an "original" fan, and I have no problem with the whole CGI vs puppets....because both have their realism and fakeness. They are merely tools to show the world of the saga, and one is not better than the other.
Yes, I know you are. As am I. I'm also fine with CGI being used to tell a story. I'm not fine, however, with it being added to a scene 30 years after it was filmed so that completely different styles of movies can be marketed as a single entity. It isn't working.
There is an inherent continuity issue when watching the films intermingled because the different styles are very distracting. There is also a continuity issue because to Lucas, style takes precedence over story. Also, the in-story technology is all over the map between the two trilogies.
Populations of planets completely change from film to film. Light sabers are used as swords in one film, then become a child's pinwheel in the next. Droids go from being Transformers numbering in the thousands in the prequels - to being common, clumsy machines which are occasionally seen and used later on.
Regarding my point of the divided fan base; During my occasional perusals of TFN I've seen more than one discussion about new fans disliking how fake the originals are. Some want even more changes made, and some discuss how the originals need to be remade so that they look like the last three.
Likewise, there are ample posts on this board and others of original fans disliking the cartoon look of CGI. You not having an issue with it doesn't mean there isn't an issue within the fan base.
To me, the films don't work together. They work as two very different sets.
