005/C3PX:

Did you ever read/hear about Irrational's cancelled zombie game (before BioShock, before L4D)?

It sounded pretty cool.  Imagine L4D, but with a strategic element.  It was all based on the idea that you were hunkered down in this fort, but you had to go out for supplies.  Or to save survivors.  Or to restore power to your building so the electrified fence worked.  Or whatever.

Maybe Xcom is a better comparison.

It actually sounded pretty cool to me- I'd like a little of that mixed in with my L4D.

I hadn't heard of it. Sounds interesting, but had it existed we might never have gotten Bioshock.

I hate you, Activision. An add-on to your game that brings four survivors into a zombie apolocypse: been done. But make them celebrities and no one points out that we have a few of these exact games already, and they're not tacked onto this year's crappy war game.

I'm not a COD fan at all, but HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS AWESOME [/super nerd out]

Have you ever played COD zombies? Awesome is a word that isn't really aloud within an mile or so radius of it.

I've played the nazi zombie thing with my friends before.  I always thought it was fun, but it's nothing I could ever see myself playing by myself, or for more than a few turns.

But being able to kill zombies as Buffy?  Well that just sounds like heaven.

I hate that alot of FPS are turning into COD now. That really sucks

the COD series of games look like shit and play like shit yet people flock to them. I'll never understand that.

I guess it probably has something to do with the fact that there's always another installment right around the corner, so people reach for their wallets when there's nothing else decent coming out..

finished portal2 and I gotta agree with Fives. despite being longer than the first it still FEELS short - i think part of it is that you get some cool new thing to play with then get ushered onto the next series of chambers without really getting to savour them.

Why are we the only people on the internet not calling Portal 2 a "masterpiece"?

True, but in my alternate reality... we got both.

And they were FREE!

And they ran at 1000 frames per second.

So I unlocked Altair's armor in AC2 last night. That was all I really wanted, so I feel like I've beaten the game already.

I love them. But I love them for what they are.

The main reason I like the COD games is that the veteran difficulty in the campaign gives me a very enjoyable challenge. Every time a new COD game comes out, I looked forward to playing the campaign on veteran. By far my favorite part of the COD games are the campaigns. They're enjoyable, nice and short, and challenging. Nice mindless light entertainment for a guy like me who doesn't have a lot of time to get lost in larger, more involved games.

I find the online multiplayer mostly really boring, unless I am playing with my friends on my team with mics, then it is always a lot of fun. Also, on very rare occasions you'll get in a room with some cool people with mics, and that can be an enjoyable experience.

I guess it probably has something to do with the fact that there's always another installment right around the corner, so people reach for their wallets when there's nothing else decent coming out..

That is kind of the nature of the beast. It is the kind of thing you play the hell out of, so frequent new installments with new features is always something to look forward to.

As for Portal 2, beat the co-op, not nearly as short as I was afraid it would be. Felt a lot longer than the original Portal. Of course, I wouldn't have mind if it had gone on longer, but I felt content. I haven't played much of the single player myself, but have been watching my girlfriend play parts of it and assisting in brainstorming solutions to the puzzles on occasion. I have to say I think it more than fullfills all expectations I've had for it. My one and only gripe would be that a level editor on the console versions (with the ability to upload and share your saved levels) would have been amazing and added countless hours of reply value to the game.

RE: The current Politics thread discussion.

This is the thread where I can't stand people disagreeing with me.  Especially 005 and C3PX.  I mean, Politics is a nice distraction, but Video Games...?

As soon as you start buying video games by non-white developers, we'll start agreeing with you.

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO CHECK ALL 3,000 PEOPLE's NAMES IN THE CREDITS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ALL WHITE!

And therefore YOU DON'T KNOW HOW FEW GAMES I ACTUALLY PLAY!

So its fortunate that the AC games specifically state that they are multi-cultural then.

It's that old chestnut: How do you dangle a carrot in front of the gamer for the whole game whilst giving him time to enjoy the carrot before the game is over?

I'm glad you got the armour- it was indeed a compelling aspect of the game.  Sorry it's defocused you.  I hope you stick it out and find something else exciting to do, like collect 1,000 flags or something.

I would recommend picking up ACB as soon as you can because it does directly follow on the story of ACII and I think you'll remember the story/characters better.  Unless you're experiencing any kind of genre fatigue, then in that case you'd be better off waiting.

Oooh, do you still have Altair's armor at the beginning of AC Brotherhood then? Or did they pull a Metroid and take it away?
