Yeah, at this point we know Lucas would never do a puppet, so a CGI replacement is as good as it gets; the ROTS model was pretty good, though like most other CG characters it was clearly a computer construct and not actually there. As much as I dislike the TPM Yoda, I can at least say it existed in the same space as the background and looked like it actually existed.

They can paste Christopher Lee's head on a stuntman, but can't put a puppet head on a CGI body? ;)

I'm betting the long delayed Dark Crystal sequel actually does this for some shots.

I have a suggestion... first, welcome back, Ken.  Your presence here is actually a wonderful opportunity for us.  Let me try to explain...

I admire your intentions Puggo, but I think it's a wasted effort.

I'm not so sure. Instead of just arguing with the guy, we were able to find out that it's not that he hates the OOT or thinks the GL is God and should never be questioned, it just isn't a priority to him. He agrees that we should have the OOT available but probably thinks it's ridiculous to get hung up on it.

That more information than I knew yesterday. I just assumed that PT "gushers" were all just blind followers of GL who just agree with replacing history.

No, they can't. But they did it anyway. And it looked like garbage.

I hope that Frank Oz has recorded new dialogue for this set.  Because I desperately want to hear Midi-chlorians coming out of Yoda's mouth in TESB.

Yoda: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Midi-chlorians create it, makes it grow. Its energy is inside of us at the microscopic level and that in turn binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force inside of you; here, between you, me, and that's it because only a select few have it.  We are the Chosen People, Luke.

Ahhhh.  So much better.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Obviously the discs will look mind-blowingly perfect no matter what...

Well, the discs might look good, (the 2004 DVD discs looked pretty good too and so did the GOUT discs) the films on them not so much ;-)

While I’m no fan of midichlorians, I will say that the thing I got asked the most about as a kid when it came to Star Wars was why Luke could become a Jedi and Han could not?

I think Lucas may have been asked this question more than we realize and decided to come up with an explanation.

“Anakin had those qualities so rarely seen, exuding an unmistakable confidence and yet still able to touch one’s heart in simply knowing how he was so flawed… wounded.”

I once thought it was as simple as "you gotta' believe".  Believe in the Force and in yourself. Han is too cynical to buy into a bunch of "simple tricks and nonsense". Luke made a leap of faith when he turned off his targeting computer. His later disbelief is what keeps him from pulling the X-Wing out of the swamp. Yoda's trembling little hand is what sold me on his powers in that scene.

Jedi toss big stuff around far too easily these days.

Midichlorians, which I believe is actually the special additive that forever marks the person who whizzes in a swimming pool, undermine the OT. ;)

I can say that I once thought this as well. However, I found myself at a loss when Leia heard Luke call to her in ESB.

She wasn't trying to hear Luke. After all, she didn't know he would call to her. So there's no "you gotta believe for it to work" moment there and yet she still hears him.

This was cemented in ROTJ when Leia said the following:

"Luke, you have a power I don't understand and could never have."

That doesn't sound like a believer.

Trust me, I'm not midichlorian apologist. I've just found myself wonering over the years since TPM if there may be some happy medium between the mystery and the science.

Maybe it was the terrible way it was explained, the obvious forced exposition. But I can honestly say that when Qui-Gon took a sample of Anakin's blood for Obi-Wan to test his "midichlorian count", I didn't find myself saying whaaaaat?

That didn't come until the Jedi Temple and landing platform scenes.

Since it's still hotly debated as to whether the whole sister thing even existed at the time ESB was filmed, I think you have to leave ROTJ out of the equation. Luke also tried calling to Ben first.

It might also be a "one way call" scenario. Leia senses Luke, but can't send a message as Vader does. Luke obviously couldn't call Han, (could he sense Han was frozen?) didn't know Lando, and I've no idea if you can telepathically call a Wookiee. It might also help if you're sending to the one person who's probably also thinking about you at the time.

Did the term "Force Sensitive" exist prior to the prequels?

Good question.

I'm not big into the Expanded Universe, but it may have started there even before the PT.

We need a knowledgeable EU fan on this.

I think Luke found a device that could scan people to see whether they were force sensitives in the Jedi Academy books, so maybe.

I always thought that some people being able to use the force and some not and that it is something that runs in the family was quite clearly implied in the OT ("The boy is our last hope." "No, there is another." - "Force is strong in my family").

BTW. greenpenguino, the text in your signature is not cool. Frink only cited it from another site because it was so stupid that it was funny and you make it look like it's something he said himself.

Actually I was the one who found it, I had originally titled it 'Dumbass on theforce.net said:...'

But I changed it to Frink to avoid any problems we may have with tfn. Frink doesn't mind though, I think
