Wah, I want more action!  I want to rough up more Albanians!

Don't worry- you'll be assassinating from the rooftops soon enough- assuming you stick with it.  I thought you enjoyed a nice story in a game?  But then again, maybe you didn't.

I had forgotten the birth thing and the first few missions.  I do remember feeling like I was on more of a linear path than I ever was in AC1, and that they did a much better job of making the missions fit inside the story.  I do remember the undressing of the lady...  but I thought it was relatively tasteful.

005- did you have similar complaints when you started and are you as concerned now that you're a little further into it?

I was messaging you as I was going through what 3PX is going through. I wanted to stab people, and it took a while to get to the point. But it was re-teaching me the basics, and teaching me the new features. Once it got kicking, its really kicking.

Except for the mission that glitched out twice in a row...

EDIT: I just got done slowly following my mother through the city while she lectured me then accused me of having vaginas as my only outlet

Shouldn't that be classed as an 'inlet'?

The game does get more action eventually, but it's more to do with the story and the characters.

The vagina itself would be classed as an inlet, but it is being used as an outlet for him... so his mum is accurate.*

Yeah, I finally got my assassinatin' gear and assassinated my first assassinee. I was giving the game a lot of crap last night for Xhonzi's benefit (he is the one that recommended it to me), but I was actually enjoying it quite a bit. I think I made it far enough in to be sufficiently hooked, which was where the first one failed me. I played it for a while and it never managed to hook me or even interest me in the slightest during my first time playing it, so I never picked it up again to continue. Now that I am enjoying the second one, I think I may pick up the first one again and play it for a bit just for comparisons sake.

Yeah, I saw that part in a review video I watched, and heard about it many times since.

There are a few moments in AC2 that tie back to AC1, which made me glad that I played it first.  Actually, AC1 still hooked me- but that might have had more to do with it preying on my low-level OCD (must...  collect...  everything...) than anything else.  I was just thinking the other day that I think it would be nigh impossible to play/enjoy AC1 after seeing all of the improvements in AC2...  And I, knowing its shortcommings, didn't regularly recommend AC1 anyways.

005: You spoiled the surprise!  But it's one of my favourite moments.

EDIT: Well you didn't ruin C3PX's surprise.  But, still...

There were way too many things to collect in AC1, drove me batty. 100 Templars? 100 Flags in EACH city and the countryside? There were other things too, weren't there?

AC2 has 100 feathers and that's it. I think maybe I can do that, but I'm not going out of my way to do so.

And I had no idea about the surprise, I LOLed.

There are only 10 feathers in ACB.  I'm kind of disappointed.  But there are 101 flags.  And they all show up on treasure maps, if you buy them.

You had me worried.  I always somewhat over-recommend things only to find that people don't have the exact same tastes I have (shocker!).

Even if I had hated it, I wouldn't have held it against you. That fact is the first Assassin's Creed really appealed to me and I really wanted to play it, then it turned out to be very different and much slower paced than how I thought it would be. So at its release hearing everyone talk about Assassin's Creed II fixing all the problems of the first game and blowing people away caught my interest from the start. Though I never wanted to spend much money on it and it quickly faded out of my radar, you just happen to be the one who kept mentioning it and reminding me that I wanted to play it.

So, Xhonzi, getting way ahead of myself here, but have you tried out any of the DLC? 340 msp each makes them sound a bit tempting, if they really add anything worthwhile.

I was going to say I wish we could assassinate people multiplayer-style, then I realized that's what Brotherhood is.

Duh. They had it used at Gamestop for $55. No thanks, you're not getting that much for a used game out of me. Think of it, selling someone a game for $60, buying it back for $20, then selling it AGAIN for $55, the developers seeing none of the second and third sellings... I feel bad.

^ You actually make an amusing point about the developers not seeing any of that second hand sells money. There is/was a big guilt trip movement aimed at piracy (don't get me wrong, I really don't support piracy) that made the claim pirates are essentially robbing developers of money they deserve (true, but I think it is over played), yet nobody really cries out against the used game market (or used music market) that does the exact same thing. A lot of people will gladly buy used to save $5 or $10 dollars, if that game changes hands four times while it is in that premium price range, that is four or five brand new copies that the developers very well may have lost money on thanks to the recirculation of a single copy. Here I think one could easily make the claim that the second hand market is as or more detrimental to sales of video games, movies, and music as The Pirate Bay and other torrent sites.

And another topic your comment made me think of is the price of used games. Assassin's Creed II has only been out for a little over a year, yet it can be bought new for around $20.00 already (in fact, I purchases my copy for $17.99 back in December, when it was just over six months old). Left 4 Dead 2 has been out for about a year and a half, and it can already be found readily for $15.00. Fallout 3 just recently made a huge price drop, but prior to that it spent a steady couple of years dropping no lower than $30 for used copies, yet Fallout: New Vegas has only been out for a little more than six months and has only had one of eight planned DLC packs released for it, and it is already $20.00 brand new (man, do I regret buying that on release day!) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood has been out since last November, yet it is still $55 brand new. Typically Halo games take years to come down in price, but Reach (another game I'll kick myself for buying near release) I've already seen used for $35.00 just around six months after its release. Meanwhile, Oblivion GOTY edition stays at a steady $40.00 used, despite being much older than any of the other games I've mentioned above. It is getting really hard to anticipate what games will keep their value and what ones will take major value plummets. The latest Medal of Honor game which has received really poor reviews and sales, but I'd still kind of like to play anyway, stays at a steady $50 range for a used copy, despite the fact that every store I go to has several used copies in stock.

The only game I bought new over the last year that isn't almost worthless now resale wise is CoD: Black Ops. Unless it is something like CoD or L4D that I will play a lot with friends online, I think I need to be done buying games that are anything newer than six months to a year old. Unfortunately, as much as it pains me to think of waiting, I think that needs to include the upcoming Portal 2 (I felt kind of burnt that Valve's previous release, Left 4 Dead 2, seemed to constantly go on sale for $20 off regular price within a month after its release, might wait to see if Portal 2 does the same. On one hand Valve is absolutely awesome at giving excellent deals on their games, but on the other hand it feels a bit like a kick in the mouth to those loyal fans who support them and buy their products shortly after release).

Alright, you have until I beat single player to buy Portal 2. We need to coop!

Got my girlfriend to finally play and beat Portal in a single setting the other day, so I think I already have my co-op partner for that one, sorry 05 ;)

Of course, if it is anything like Portal, I am not going to mind tackling it multiple times (though, again, if it is anything like the first Portal, the very first time is a unique experience that can never be relived).

I am probably setting myself up for extreme disappointment, but I kind of have my fingers crossed hoping that Portal 2 brings us some hints that Half-Life 2: Episode 3/Half-Life 3 is on the way followed by full fledged confirmation at E3.

Come on 2011, don't disappoint me! At this point Half-Life feels a bit like a really good TV show canceled on a cliff hanger, one last installment providing closure to the current plot line and I could live content without another sequel.

Or the used car market, or the used housing market, or anything sold on ebay, etc...

Renting or borrowing games/movies/books apparently steals money from the producrers/artists as well.

Listening to the radio is as good as putting your hand in the pocket of the musician and stealing his hard earned money.

Watching OTA TV is stealing money from hard working movie studios and cable companies.

Going to the park and enjoying fresh aire and the sunset is "stealing" from all electronic boogaloo entertainers.

---

But back to games.  (Sorry, I've had this conversation a lot... but I'll try to keep it short and friendly)

$55 is a little misleading.  They may pay $20-$30 for the used game they put back on the shelf at $55.  And they may sell a few copies at $55, but they will definitely still have some of those copies when the sticker price drops to $40 and below.  But still, $20-$30 went back to the gamer that bought the game in the first place.  And if he's trading in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood this soon after release, he probably bought it new and will probably buy the next AC game new.  He might buy a lot of games- even a lot of Ubisoft games- new.  Something he probably couldn't afford to do (at least, at the magnitude he does) if he wasn't getting some of his $60 back when selling them to Gamestop.

Out of the potential $35 that Gamestop is making, some of that goes to pay the hourly wages of the Gamestop employees that spend some of that money on... you guessed it- games.  Most of the rest of the money goes to pay for the rent, the electricity, the employee benefits, advertising, etc..  Gamestop makes so little markup on the sale of new games (because sooo much of it goes back to the publisher (the developers don't usually get a cut of sales $$$, but they do get to make their next game and maybe get a payraise when they do)) that they probably couldn't stay open selling only new games.  So those used game sales are keeping Gamestop open so that they can continue to sell both new and used games.  And since such a large percentage of new games in the US are sold at Gamestop... those used sales really are propelling the sale of new games.  Not quite "sucking the life out of them" as some would say.

Sure, if all sales of used games were sales of new games at $60, the publishers would be making a lot more money.  But that's not realistic.  Most sales that don't happen at $60 wouldn't happen at $60.  And of the $60 new sales occuring today, a lot of them wouldn't without used games supplementing the cost (both to keeping Gamestop open and keeping the new-game-buying-gamer's wallet full).

And back to the $55 price one more time-  I don't usually need a game right when it comes out, so I don't usually pay $60 new or $55 used.  But let's say I did.  I get %10 on used games at gamestop, so that $55 sticker means I'm really paying $50.  And though I've probably bought 100 things at gamestop over the years, I can count on one hand the number of times that I've bought something that wasn't "buy 2 get 1 free".  So, if I bought 3 $55 games (that are really $50 games), I'd only pay $100, which makes them $33/game- about half the new $60 price.  So, at least when they sell to me, that game that they paid $20-$30 for doesn't have so much markup on it anymore.

So, you don't have to feel bad for putting money in the games market- even if it's not a "new" sale.  Surely, buying games directly from the publisher is the way of ensuring that more of your purchase price goes directly to the publisher.  But as long as you're putting money into the games economy, good developers are making money from you, even if it's indirectly.

Haha, so I sat down to play Assassin's Creed II and there is no voice audio (I just missed the "It's a me Mario" line, I think). Really weird, tried a bunch of thing and can't get it back. Lousy glitchy game.

For a story based game, it really is pants to play it without any dialogue. Unfortunately, scouring the web for solutions given to others that have had this problem, I found they've all gotten really useful suggestions like, "Unmute your TV", "Try buying your games next time instead of pirating them!", "Delete the .iso you downloaded and BUY THE GAME." Hate the internet, way too many idiots.

Finding absolutely nothing helpful online. Well, I guess that is the end of Assassin's Creed II for me.

EDIT: Well, spent even more time searching and I am officially giving up. Google searches show that a lot of people have had the problem, but they usually just get flamed for it and/or accused of piracy or of being stupid. No solutions given, no fixes, nothing, but it seems to a problem across all three platforms, PC, PS3, and 360, only not a common enough problem for Ubisoft to have bothered with a patch or even for cleaver fans to have figured out a solution.

Soooo, hopefully I can at least get a few bucks for this POS game by selling it on amazon.

Yay! I could pretend like I am playing an old DOS adventure game! But no, for a story based game, I am not going to screw around with reading it. I can get a much better storyline out of a good book if I were in the mood to read. A game like this with cut scenes every five minutes isn't meant to be read.
