I assume there's some reason why Vimeo isn't being considered? It has a great reputation with folks who seem like the sorts that would hate facebook's compression modifications and you don't have to join a facebook group to see the content.

^ I agree, I don't have a facebook account.

Vimeo! Why didn't I think of that? The videos I've watched there look excellent.

Yes, there is a reason.  Vimeo is worse than YouTube.  With them, your videos have to be 100% made by you.  In other words, home videos.  Anything else gets removed withing weeks.

I don't think LF would be behind the disappearance of ANH:R on YouTube.  If that were the case, wouldn't they take down the various commercially available Episodes I-VI as well?

Lucasfilms had nothing to do with the disappearance of ANH:R disappearing from YouTube.  I took it down on my own freewill.  The first and last parts were blocked in a buttload of countries because of the main Star Wars theme.

I thought for sure that Lucasfilms owned the musical score to the films, but now I believe that is not the case.  The only way I could get around the videos being blocked is to either compose the music from scratch or alter the music pitch, and I don't want to mess with Adywan's fan-edit in anyway for whatever reason.

I am very sorry, everyone.

No need to be sorry. The way youtube is blocking so many videos now is just going to stop people from using it. I know that i will never be using it again and might even take all the videos from there completely. Thanks for letting us know G E Predator

You're welcome, Ady.

Hey, this is mostly on topic- does anyone know what state the Obi-Wan/Vader duel is on the purist edition? Is it the same as the SE, or is it Adywan's edit minus the Battle of the Heroes music? I'm looking into that for my own purposes, and the download is taking a while- thought I'd check in here to see if what I'm looking for is in there, and therefore worth the download.

It's Adywan's edit minus the music, I can confirm this.  I was able to use the sound from the Purist version with the video from the Revisited DVD-9 back when I was working on my own edit (before my hard drive crashed and killed it).

I seem to remember CBS recently removed one of its own videos because it infringed its own copyright, or something ridiculous like that.

That reminds me of when John Fogerty was sued for plagiarising himself. :p I guess these networks are so up in arms over not making money on something, they remove first, then look into it afterwards.

I've started using proxies to view certain things. It so unfair that just because I don't happen to live in the U.S., I'm banned from watching some content from The Office on nbc.com, for example, especially as I have given NBC hundreds of dollars over the years buying their DVDs.

At the risk of boring absolutely everybody on this thread, I just wanted to offer my support and admiration for everyone who has contributed to these projects and the forums over the years.

Adywan's ANH Revisited has been in heavy rotation since I acquired it and I look forward to the re-visitation of ESB.

Is there an official list of changes for the HD version from the SD version?

I really like the music during the light saber battle and think choirless would be the best. So I hope ady keeps it an option for those of us who like it. If not... I will just make it myself.

We're probably 5 years away from Ady even thinking about what he's going to do for ARSE. Maybe he'll give us a general idea sooner than that though.

  • Going to try to restore final shot of Tarkin before the Death Star blows up
  • Going to try to reorganize shots so Threepio’s original reaction to Artoo being hit during Luke’s trench run will be restored

Very happy about these two. :) Thanks for posting that, 005!

Great update on that doubleofive.  I'm delighted with all of those. :)

  • Choice of music or music-less duel
  • Going to try to restore final shot of Tarkin before the Death Star blows up

I'm so glad ady is considering both of these! I personally loved the music added in the duel, so it's great people can decide on which one they prefer.

In before other suggested changes...

...even though the update specifically says he won't be considering them.

Yes Frink, but what about changes to things people liked the first time?  Will the Death Star starting to shoot as it blows up still be there?  That was one of the best things of the edit!

Adywan reveals his list of possible further changes to ANHR!

Sounds great.

Three (possibly four) of my five overall nitpicks may be changed.

The controversial electric torture droid needle will be changed

I never had a problem with electrifying the torture needle. I just felt it would look better if it were just the white core. Removing the surrounding blue hue will keep people from calling it a mini-lightsaber.

Going to try to reorganize shots so Threepio’s original reaction to Artoo being hit during Luke’s trench run will be restored

Excellent. Was surprised to see it gone during initial viewing.

Going to try to restore final shot of Tarkin before the Death Star blows up

Truly great. It was the biggest nitpick for me.

A different Death Star reveal not using reused footage from ESB

I know Ady is talking about the Star Destroyers here, but it allows us to revisit (pun intended) the thought that a member had. I wish I could remember who it was so that I could give them credit. It was the idea to have the Death Star orbiting the Endor moon during its initial reveal. I thought that sounded pretty cool.

“Anakin had those qualities so rarely seen, exuding an unmistakable confidence and yet still able to touch one’s heart in simply knowing how he was so flawed… wounded.”

Those proposed changes were among my few nit-picks with the original release as well, so I'm happy to hear that they may be getting addressed. My only other suggestion would be to restore Obi-Wan's and Vader's confrontation aboard the Death Star, such that Vader's sabre is already lit when Obi-Wan meets him. In Revisited, Obi-Wan is the first to ignite his sabre, and I always thought that that had a significant (and unwelcome) narrative effect; it appears that Obi-Wan is not acting defensively, but rather offensively, which seems to go against both his and, later in Empire, Yoda's instructions about using the Force for knowledge and defence, never for attack. And likewise, by being aggressive and very much on the hunt for Obi-Wan here, it seems more in keeping with Vader's character and motivation to have him make the first move, as it were.

I brought this up with Adywan a while ago and he is considering it. He made Obi-wan light up first because he did in Episode III, but I pointed out that I think Luke failed at the cave in ESB because he lit up first.

Ah, excellent! I'll keep my fingers crossed then.

Yeah, that was my thinking as well.
