Welcome to the Rileys
Assassins
The Bank Job
Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Bit of a Wilder binge, eh? ;-) Those are all absolutely essential films! Sunset Blvd is in my Top 10.
Skyline.
Passable special effects showreel interspersed with random substandard video game cut scene quality dialogue and characters I could barely define let alone care about.
Not crap enough to be so bad it's good.
Not crap enough to be significantly annoyed with.

Yep. I've been on a noir kick and you always have to include Billy. Honestly, I now think Ace in the Hole might be the definitive Wilder film.

I would agree. Ace In The Hole is his best film. Great performances, script, pacing, cinematography. It's all top notch. I just can't imagine anyone not liking it.
That being said, I think Sunset Blvd is a more artistic and daring film in just about every regard. It's not to everyone's taste, but neither is the best art. Sunset reminds me at times of gothic horror in the vein of Dracula, and I just love that about it, given its subject matter. Its characters are larger than life, it's conceit outlandish, and it's also one of the most stunning black and white films I've ever seen. It just could not be done in color.
In a way, if Ace is Spielberg, Sunset is Kubrick.
2001: A Space Odyssey
I won't even begin to describe how much I adore this film. I read the book again for about the fourth time a few months ago, and in the written form having more detail about the function and purpose of the monoliths and their creators works very well, but in the movie the incomprehensible vastness and wonderous mystery is much more open-ended, and probably for the best. (Although once you know what they were actually going for, it's easy to see how those ideas shape the movie as well.)
Still not sure what exactly prompted me to watch it--I was just laying around bored when I started hearing the monolith music in my head, and then I just had to. lol

What?! It's "Also sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss, you philistine!!! ;)
Kubrick's not mine. He bores me to death with every single movie of his.
Dead Alive.
Needed more blood. :p

I think he's saying that you make boring movies too, if I understand "pot calling the kettle black" correctly.

Gone With the Wind. This film is so beautifully shot.
I remember when I was little, I would recite the part of the film when Mamie told Scarlett to "come back inside the house". Weird, huh?
Before that, E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial. I watched this one with my Dad. Remember how I said he didn't like Full Metal Jacket last time he visited because it was "too unrealistic"?
On this visit, he told me that ALL sci-fi is stupid because, as stated above, it's too "unrealistic".
He also went on to say that the only people who like sci-fi are "mentally deficient".
After insulting my intelligence, the rest of the visit was pretty awkward.
My rating:
Gone With the Wind:
9/10
E.T:
10/10
Pop's rating:
E.T:
2/10

No, no, no, no, no, I didn't mean that, I meant the dissonant howling vocals that play when the monolith appears! It's the Requiem by György Ligeti.
The Other Man
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Jackie Earle Haley Edition)
The Other Guys

Okay, what did I do wrong?
You called h_h a philistine for not knowing the correct name of "Also Sprach Zarathuastra" and then said Kubrick movies bored you to death! Making you a philistine!
I was just joshin' ya tho ;-)
