THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released) — Page 24

this is an English preservation project of THX with a little extra for the fans... this being an extra disc with the Italian version of the film subtitled in English.

That's even better. Thanks for the info. :)

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Does it move at all, like a loose thread? That could be removed in Combustion. I was able to remove similar stuff in ANH, like tape splices.

IIRC it's completely static, so do you think it can be removed sucessfully?Combustion... that sounds like it would be difficult for an amatuer like me to handle, maybe you're able to help out with this project?

And yes, this thread is mainly about getting the "restored original cut" Lucas was able to release post SW, SilverWook have sent me several fine captures of his US and Japanese Laserdisc, in addition to that, Nerfherder also sent his capture of the UK LD, so we have a lot to work with. :) I just haven't started on it as I wanted to finish the Italian cut before moving on with this.

I've also sent the captures to dark_jedi in the hopes to get some help with this as my computer is not really suitable for this task when it comes to it, last I talked with him they still hadn't showed up which makes me a little nervous as it was more than two weeks ago.

erri_wan, just take your time. that went fast, Thanks. ;)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Tell you what - render that section out with VDub and send it to me. I'll see what I can do. (Huffy would be nice, though I've seen talk of another Codec called Logarith(sp?)) Removing stuff like that was easy in Combustion because I could steal from the frame prior or after. A static image poses a different situation, but it's worth a shot. I'd hate to leave something like that in the final version if it could be helped.

msycamore I preferred to conclude it tonight so I already sent you the email with the required info, check your inbox ;-)

EDIT: lol you saw it ;-)

As I probably already said I'm preparing some written stuff to put as extra in the dvd (perhaps as trivia list to associate with some rare pictures we collected). In this written text I'm explaining all about this Italian cut in the form of short paragraphs (so it will be easier to present it "cut up"). Just keep in mind I've got this stuff to send you, when it will be time for you to work on the extras.

Ok I think it's THX speaking in both, if you listen to him talking around minute 23' of the film you can hear the same tone. I vote THX in both lines. Let me know what you think

Yeah, it definitely sounds like it should be THX for both lines. I just wanted a second opinion on it, thanks erri!

Cool, thank you so much for helping out! Very kind of you. :) I'll make an Lagarith out of that section and upload it for you then. Thanks!

Yeah, that's what I suspected, a much more difficult task, hopefully you can work your magic on it. Thanks again for helping out. :)

That is great, but I don't know what extra we could possibly include for this disc that is not going on the other planned extra disc?

The way I see it:

Just the Italian cut on a single-layer DVD, would like to at least have a menu so you have the option to turn on the subs.

A dual-layer DVD for the original cut to max out the audio and video-bitrate, and possibly a supplied DVD with some extras.

Oh right I forgot we're already putting all the extra in the first disc. Well we might re-use some of those images (we've got at least 2 or 3 Italian posters if I'm not mistaken) to "decorate" the text, so it's not too "bare looking" and boring.

I think we owe a good explanation to those who, besides us, are not aware of this Italian cut and will be wondering why there's an Italian cut at all attached to a preservation release of the original THX-1138

MeBeJedi, I checked the footage with the white speck and it's actually stuck in frame for approximately 13 minutes. :( Do you still want to give it a shot? If it seems like too much work, maybe you could try to only get rid of it in the scenes that have been altered for the DC.

13 minutes isn't too bad. I've done worse, believe me. ;)

If possible, give me a few frames before and after as well.

It's still not attached to anything, it's just a seperate preservation of the Italian cut, nothing more. But I agree with you, it would be nice to have some notes in there, its just that I've never done DVD menus before so don't expect anything fancy, maybe someone else can help out with that as I also want to move on to begin work on the LD's as soon as possible.
