I emailed you the hi-res scan. Remember to remove the part that reads "Visto censura n°93... etc" because that identify the film I took it from (in this case Eyes Wide Shut, a laugh compared to other countries rating for this film)
When things get wrapped up on this project (which looks really great so far), could someone PM me where I can acquire the results? (And I'll be glad to help with any remaining work, assuming it's in my skill set.)

I am sorry it taking so long to get this Italian cut out there, but it is the subtitles that takes the time to do, even though erri_wan did a fantastic job with the translation and timings, it still takes a lot of effort and time to make them read smoothly as a DVD subtitle stream, where you set the line breaks so you can read them as fast as possible, where I split lines that is too long and a lot of retiming and correcting typos etc.
I needed to take a little break from the sub work, before I went crazy but I'll finish it up soon. Everything is almost done, I will send you the corrected subs soon erri, along with a few questions I have regarding some lines I want you to take a look at.
The scan of the rating symbol you sent me was great, but I noticed the Italian DVD-version have a different rating than the one you provided: http://cgi.ebay.it/Luomo-che-fuggi-dal-futuro-THX-1138-ED-SPECIALE-2-DVD-/260392983677?pt=DVD_Cinema_Internazionale&hash=item3ca0a19c7d but the same goes for the US rating that was changed for the '04 release so I don't know about that one. Any thoughts on that? Also weird that even the official DVD have the title wrong with a regular apostrophe instead of an accent mark.
Regarding the differences in cropping between the US/JAP and UK LD-transfer, the UK transfer Nerfherder provided will definitely be useful for some sequences where the other is badly cropped, like this one:

Except in this case that gag isn't funny at all, loved when Benny Hill used it in one of his shows. :)
Maybe it's possible to mask it out somehow, perhaps using that filter Puggo mentioned earlier for removing logos. 2004 footage cannot be used for all those scenes either, too many altered scenes. :(

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've recently sent my sub-file to erri_wan along with some concerns I had regarding some lines, I have also gone over it a second time and corrected some typos here and there.
When he reports back I'll finally finish this and upload it for you. Well, I also need to finalise that cover art for it...

I've stumbled across the existence of another 16mm print, but I'm unsure about how to discreetly make inquiries without triggering a high price being asked, if it's for sale at all.

Coming into this project pretty late....but I love THX.
I went back a few pages, but didn't find answers to the questions I had:
1) Are you using the Italian transfer for the entire film, including scenes with Italian writing onscreen?
2) Will there only be an Italian soundtrack with English subtitles?
3) How long is the segment with the white "thingie" on the left side?

As the Italian version is an entirely unique cut of the film with different editing and brief additional footage not included in either the US -"original cut" nor the 2004 "Director's Cut", the answer is yes on both of your questions, just Italian audio with english subs, the source is a a crude pan & scan transfer with a lot of compression artifacts and other nasties but it will be nice to have this nowadays rare Italian cut preserved in some way, especially for Italians but also for the rest of us who are interested in spotting the various differences and often hilarious liberties they took with the story when dubbing it.

That irritating white bastard is something that is on the master they used for the US, UK and Japanese Widescreen Laserdiscs, and it's unfortunately stuck in the frame for several minutes, don't remember exactly how long, but including footage that has later been digitally manipulated by the bearded mad man. I guess they just didn't bother back then as it probably didn't show up on most old tubes due to the larger overscan.

Does it move at all, like a loose thread? That could be removed in Combustion. I was able to remove similar stuff in ANH, like tape splices.

I've been dreaming of posting these days but I've been very busy. Fist time I turn the PC on in days! (Msycamore, I'll check your file as soon as I can, give me some days ok?).
From what I read, a few of you haven't really read carefully the previous pages (I know it's 22 of them!). No need to get worried guys, this is an English preservation project of THX with a little extra for the fans... this being an extra disc with the Italian version of the film subtitled in English.
That's what I thought was happening erri_wan. When msycamore said it was all Italian (at least, that's how I read his comment), I was confused and concerned.

Leo, please open the film in Italian and check at 56.25. The lines "Lo sai cosa sono questi? / Sono morti", can you tell me who the heck is speaking there? The first line is definitely delivered by THX because I can see his jaw moving. The second line "sono morti", is it still THX speaking (that's what I first thought) or is it the hologram replying? Thanks for your help. Msycamore was puzzled at that but so am I

Ok I think it's THX speaking in both, if you listen to him talking around minute 23' of the film you can hear the same tone. I vote THX in both lines. Let me know what you think
