I agree with the point of this article. Star Wars fans want to create something that can be a part of it.

When I look at all the fanart, fanfilms, and fanfiction. I'm amazed at the amount of creativity and energy put into it. And I think all the fan-made or non-lucas made material is really unsurpassed in all of fandom.

And I think the potential is there for single one-shot movies.

Star Wars: Death Troopers

BLACKSTAR WARRIOR TRAILER

Western-themed Boba Fett movies (e.g. Yojimbo: Boba Fett pits two rival gangs together; 3:10 to Yuma: Fett needs to transport a dangerous bounty). Film Noir like "Star Wars: Coruscant Nights".

Another idea I have which I think would be really fun is to have prequel side stories for the main characters. The actors are too old now but in my movies Han Solo would have a treasure hunt movie inspired by the Indiana Jones movies. I would call it "Han Solo and the Lost Treasure of Zim the Conquerer" or something ridiculous like that. And it would be before he get the Falcon. He would even comment to Chewie that if this operation goes through they can finally get their own ship. Later in the movie he would be faced with the choice of getting the treasure or doing good. Naturally he would choose good. And in the end there's a surprise rescue by Lando in the Falcon. With Han commenting what a nice ship it is.

With Leia. I would have a movie called "The Courtship of Princess Leia" (which is actually a title of a Star Wars novel). And it would show what life was like for her on Alderaan. The plot would be a floppish Matthew Mcconaughey-like prince who wants to marry Leia but they get captured by space pirates who want to ransom them. They escape trying to get back home but the pirates are chasing them. Think romantic comedy with Leia put off by this guy but this time instead of her falling in love with him she realizes that she has a duty to other people and in the end becomes a Galactic Senator.

With Luke I don't have a title but the plot would be some adventure at this huge Jawa trade and swap event. Think Hardy Boys with teenage Luke and his buddies.

Star Wars has the flexibility to include multiple stories which can go beyond "Lucas' The Tragedy of Darth Vader".

People had said that some of the fan friction comes from people wanting to create a "sandbox" like universe for Star Wars but Lucas cracking down on that.

Devil's advocate- I had another poster on a different forum say that all the creative energy that people put into Star Wars could be used to create their own stories without any baggage from Star Wars. But I love Star wars so much and its so flexible and mixes well with so many things.

Ah, yes ... the battle cry of fanboys everywhere. I notice, however, they never say that to fellow sycophants who choose to explore the SW Universe within the confines of Lucas' narrow vision; just those who are less than pleased with the PT ... Methinks they just don't like the idea that anyone could have a take on SW that doesn't mesh with Georgy's POV.

...

Steampunk Star Wars is full of win, BTW.

That was actually an early idea for my audio drama (plug, plug, plug)

the legend goes that Star Wars came about because Lucas could not secure the rights for Flash Gordon.

a lesson there for anyone who wants to make a living as a content creator methinks.

I would really love to make some kind of Star Wars-related Comic Book, but there's been so many that coming up with a new/somewhat original idea seems rather impossible.
