DVD+R DL's

Any type of Verbatim DVD+R DL's are a good bet.  I believe there's one factory that makes Verbatim discs that are sub-par, but I've never gotten a batch - I've always had a near-100% success rate with Verbatim discs.

The Singapore plant is the best; the plants in Taiwan and India are not as good.  I think that Datalifeplus discs have at times been outsourced so I suppose it depends.   (Aren't Datelifeplus discs being phased out anyway?)

In my personal experience, discs from Singapore are great, discs from Taiwan are generally fine, and discs from India are awful and are a waste of space.  I have had discs from Singapore that have had various kinds of packaging and labelling  but have seemed the same in terms of quality.  Basically, I would suppose that if the discs are marked "made in Singapore" whatever else is on the packaging/labelling doesn't matter.  (I cannot give you a technical answer though.)

Sounds stupid but try blowing out the burner, had a similar problem where started getting coasters then errors where it wouldn't even start writing.  Even though it was the same batch of discs.  reversed the vacuum on it, and it's back to normal.

I won't burn anything but Verbatims for DL's, but SL's, Tayo Yudens all the way, and Verbatims for my BD blanks as well.

Actually I have never used them, only because every single thing I ever read, or heard from fellow members, and Friends, is the Tayo Yuden SL DVDr's are the best hands down, I have burned well over a 1000 TY's and seriously, I can't remember if I ever had a bad burn, plus, there SHINY!

I've never had a bad Verbatim SL burn but I certainly have with Memorex!

Tayo Yuden does not even make DVD+R DL's, I have read that they did/do make DVD-R DL's though, but I don't use those, only +R's.

I've used the JVC DL's made in Japan...I believe Taiyo Yuden makes them, and I've never had issue with any of them.

Finally going to get a dual layer burner and some discs on Amazon. Going Verbatim for discs and getting the Lite-On Lightscribe dual layer drive on Amazon.

Why wouldn't you use what everyone recommends? Verbatim DL's made in Singapore are what you want to use hands down.

He's just asking.  Maybe he saw some Sony discs at the store, and wants to know if it's worth it to wait for the Verbatims in the mail or if the Sony's are good enough.  I know there isn't a single store in my hometown that sells Verbatim DL blanks, I had to get them shipped.

I know he is just asking CA, and I am just answering, I have tried other brands and they just DO NOT hold up, and you burn a lot of coasters, so if you do not want to wait for a brand that is proven as CA put it, then try it, but keep in mind, if it does burn OK, check the disc 6-12 months from now and see if it plays, it is not just the burn, it is also how well they last.

My experience with SONY DL is that they work fine.  A bunch came with the drive so they were the first I used and for couple years they all were fine.  Then one day they stopped being recognized when burning.  Switched to Memorex for a time, then they failed.  Tried a couple other brands as well.  Turns out it was not a disc issue it was the drive getting dusty.  Once blown out everything worked as usual.  Have mailed and handed out over 100 DL discs and haven't gotten back any 'it doesn't play anywhere' comments.  But these experiences are relatively meaningless since i'm only certain of 10% of people who didn't have a problem, the other 90% never heard back from!

(and i see i've told this story earlier in the thread, knew it sounded familiar...)

With the status of any economy Verbatim discs could be quite a stretch for some people who are just starting out.

I am just asking since I noticed we have them at he store i work at, so was wondering how they held up. Been nice to just get them in person without ordering online if that was possible.

I've never used RW's, personally.

I was going to ask why someone would use RW's these days.
