One thing that has always nagged me about Star Wars is why the laser guns fire bolts. Lasers travel at the speed of light, you would see a continuous beam and not a bolt. Lucas should've known that.

Well they're supposed to be lasers, aren't they?
1) If you go into the EU, they're not literally lasers, but plasma projectiles.
2) It's Star Wars. If we wanted to list the number of things that don't make scientific sense, we'd be here all year. What matters is the story and the pretty pictures. Actual physics can go and take a running jump.
Then I guess in that case the name "laser" would be an archaic holdover, much in the same way that we still call engineering drawings "blueprints".

Ok, I have a problem. I just tried to play the DVD in my PS3 and it will not read it.
I don't think LF would be behind the disappearance of ANH:R on YouTube. If that were the case, wouldn't they take down the various commercially available Episodes I-VI as well?

You can rule out the problem being the PS3. I have both an older (4th generation?) and current model, and my DVD-9 plays fine on both.

It just tried to spin it and then ejects it.
*shrugs* I'll just play the ISO file on my computer, less hassle than a disc any way.

Lucasfilms had nothing to do with the disappearance of ANH:R disappearing from YouTube. I took it down on my own freewill. The first and last parts were blocked in a buttload of countries because of the main Star Wars theme.
I thought for sure that Lucasfilms owned the musical score to the films, but now I believe that is not the case. The only way I could get around the videos being blocked is to either compose the music from scratch or alter the music pitch, and I don't want to mess with Adywan's fan-edit in anyway for whatever reason.

Cool. I can find another video site -- one that won't cut off any video from any part of the world -- I'll probably re-upload it there.

Never are they ever referenced to as laser guns. Always blasters.
I believe that John Williams retains the rights to his own works. At least I know that if you are a musical organization and you want to arrange one of his pieces suitably for your group, you have to get approval directly from him. And he rarely grants permission to perform any arrangement other than his own originals.

I checked on one of my other videos containing Star Wars music, and it says that Sony Music Entertainment either owns or administers the soundtrack recordings.
Still, I was under the impression that Lucas owns every single copyright in regards to anything Star Wars...and that would include the musical score. However, now I think that Sony owns the publishing rights to the music while Williams/Lucasfilms owns performing rights.
It's a complicated business... there's the rights to the music, the rights to the recordings of the music, the rights to making new recordings of the music, the rights to performing the music, the rights to arranging the music, the rights to synchronizing the music with video, the rights to distributing the music, the rights to distributing the scores, etc. etc. etc.

Exactly. And considering how many different recordings of the main Star Wars theme have been published (not just the ones used in the movies), it's now more understandable why it's blocked in so many countries.

So we have a weapon that doesn't behave like a laser, doesn't look like a laser, and isn't called a laser, but we expect it to look like a laser.

They're not lasers, they're plasma-beam weapons. But the big cannons are called lasers, specifically Turbolasers. If you recall during the Battle of Yavin, an Imperial officer says to Lord Vader "They're so small they're evading our Turbolasers."

No need to be sorry. The way youtube is blocking so many videos now is just going to stop people from using it. I know that i will never be using it again and might even take all the videos from there completely. Thanks for letting us know G E Predator

As much as I understand your frustrations with youtube, it's unfortunate that you'll no longer be using it at all. Facebook's resolution for videos is just so terrible D:

Well i think i'm going to transfer them all over to the facebook site. I'm just fed up of spending ages uploading to youtube only to have it blocked automatically and then getting hundreds of messages from people saying they can't view it.
It's getting really pathetic on that site now. I can't even view videos that channel 4 own the copyright to because it's block in my country, but this is one of my countries free channels and the rest of the world is able to view them. It's madness.

I have seen no evidence of that. I upload HD files there and when viewing in full screen its far superior to that of You-tube and facebook's video compression is far better than You tube's too. At least facebook doesn't change the colouring of videos like you-tube has for me.
Can't say I blame you ady. It's gotten out of hand. Don't these companies realize that youtube is free promotion? Sorry you can't make a dime on every single view like you wish you could, Sony/NBC/etc., but what you're getting is exposure. Nobody is bootlegging youtube videos and selling them in Chinatown. (Are they?)
I seem to remember CBS recently removed one of its own videos because it infringed its own copyright, or something ridiculous like that.
