Apocalypse Now - Workprint (now available) (Released) — Page 5

The three scenes that I think are the most interesting to see from the uncut 5 hr version is the extended helicopter flight (with Tomita music - is it just me or does it sound a lot like Tarna's theme [at 1:45] in HEAVY METAL?), the extended Scot Glenn footage (of which the best scene is on the Complete Dossier) and the original ending, where Martin Sheen stabs a spear through a child to kill a guard - really wished they used that ending for the REDUX version.

In regards to best quality video, short of finding something in a vault, I believe the SubCin version is probably as good as it gets (for the moment)...

Here are some interesting... things about the uncut version as well as behind the scenes shenanigans.

If anyone is interested in this project still I have got some clippings from Rolling Stone November 01 1979, NME December 15 1979, Life June 1979 and er, Mad magazine June 1980.

I'm sure I would be able to scan them in if they would be worth as an extra. Nothing much in them that we don't know already from say Hearts of Darkness but the RS pieces are good, interviews with Sheen and Coppola.

I would love to get hold of some ADigitalMan Extended Editions if anyone can help out. Monty Python's Life Of Brian, Love Actually Bloated and Flatulent. Ta!

Yeah it looks like they may have put this up too early.

There are/were two different versions of it: one with the documentary and one without. :)

I have to agree with "buttergun"'s review when comparing AN:R(edux) with AN:O(riginal) V(ersion)

While it was nice to see the extra scenes remastered and integrated back into the film, why we did not see the scenes that would have been the most interesting or integral to making the story more surreal:

(1) the extended helicopter travel sequence,
(2) Dennis Hopper's death scene and especially
(3) Willard's approach to Kurtz' temple compound (though Buttergun is wrong in that it is a Cambodian guard that holds the child up, of which Willard impales them both with a spear).

@Maclanachu: The 4CD version you have is probably complete and the scenes after the movie are just some kind of bonus.

The digitalbits has some release info on the new AN set which will have much more extras and Hearts of Darkness.

Triple posts are sloppy but i have a question... has anyone ever re-inserted the credits as found on the '95 laserdisc and 35mm run of the movie? The Blu has no credits at all, and Coppola used different credits on the DVD. I am referring tothis version.

How would you guys feel about someone taking a blu-ray rip of AN:Redux and inserting the workprint footage in when appropriate (say have the 720p quality footage fade into the workprint version and back again, so as to distinguish what is the workprint footage)?  Granted, it would have to be done in a way that flowed well (no hard cuts if possible), but it would be interesting and not as hard on the eyes...

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'd be interested in a version like that, Monroville. Are you willing to make it? It would make a great composite and make most of the film more watchable...

Also, I too have the version that Maclanachu describes, albeit reauthored onto a 16:9 anamorphic single-layer disc. As far as I can tell, this question was never definitively ansered: What is missing from the 5 hour version that is in the complete workprint?

Hi, I didn't want to bump an old thread either but with Aluminim Falcon's post it's no longer just me.

So, I am grabbing the 4CD xvid version from a torrent site. Someone already pointed out there was a 6(?) SVCD version that's probably nowhere to be found online (and I'd expect the 4CD xvid version to be better anyway).

The SubCin version is the 3x single-layer DVD-R copy that's floating around too. I just can't seem to establish if this 4CD xvid version is a conversion of the copy or not. If not, is the SubCin one available online anywhere? If we aren't allowed to talk about the source just PM me. I find it hard to believe that a quality version of the workprint would be so heavily traded and not have found its way online.

Also, is there an article somewhere that will help me clip out the workprint-exclusive scenes one I've downloaded this 4CD rip? I wish to show my film lecturer a scene or two for discussion and it'd be handy to have a bullet-point list of what's found exclusively in this version (timestamps for the scenes would be even better and not unlikely given that this release is timecoded...)

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Klokwerk, it's nice to see that someone is interested in this also. I'm curious about the question you asked as well: has the SubCin been uploaded to a torrent or rapidshare/megaupload? If it's a torrent, I'd be willing to seed it... Anyway, please PM me with information about this if it becomes available online.

As for the 4CD Xvid that Klokwerk and I have, no one has answered my question; is it different from the SubCin version in terms of footage. Is the Subcin longer than it? Speaking of that, Klokwerk or anyone else with this, can anyone seed the torrent once more so I can download this version again? I reauthored it into a DVD and foolishly deleted the master AVI files. Now I've found that the DVD has out-of-sync audio, so I'd like to get the AVI files again..

No, the SubCin version hasn't been uploaded online, despite everyone saying that it's the best quality version of it. I'd happily download 3 DVD-Rs worth of data if it's an improvement on this 4CD version.

I'm seeding what I have of the 'Noid torrent at the moment via my seedbox, which is CD3 and CD4. CD1 and CD2 are slowly downloading and should be seeding within 24hrs. I won't seed forever though, let me know when you're done. :)

Can anyone help me and Aluminum Falcon out with info? How is this 4CD different to SubCin? Are the running times the same, or different. If they're different lengths, what's the difference in footage? Is there any footage that's missing from both versions?

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Thanks a billion, klokwerk! I'll tell you when I'm done. It's downloading at a pretty fast speed so it shouldn't be long.

Oh yes; I'm all good, klokwerk. Thanks for seeding this! I'm so sorry that I forgot to tell you. I've had a very busy week and I download on a separate computer; so the whole thing just slipped my mind. Once again, thanks a billion!
