Why is " I don't have ______ " a valid excuse to deny the rest of us the very best and the pinnacle of video formats? Does it make any sense for Adywan to spend years on this edit and not do a Blu-Ray? His prerogative of course but it would be strange. It seems the same whiners about not having a Blu-Ray burner are the same that always whine about not wanting to pay for or learn how to use Usenet. Lamers.

I vote for Blu-Ray.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Who said he shouldn't do a Blu version?  I certainly didn't say that.

As long as it's Revisited, it's good enough for me.

So, yeah, I'm down for whatever.

A few months ago I would have said "thanks for nothing, pal."  But since I've finally gotten off my ass (or is that on my ass?) and started learning about editing tools, I think this is something I could handle.  Thanks for the tip!

What's really cool about Handbrake too is that is easy to figure out.. I mean, I'M using it, so it can't be that difficult to figure out...

And I vote against blu-ray, hereby cancelling Asteroid Man's vote.

Hooray!  The system works!

Why are you so quick to shoot people down? What's the problem?

I have a blu-ray burner and I have Usenet, what the hell has that got to do with me or anyone agreeing that it would be fair to give others the AVCHD? You come running to the rescue to bad mouth anyone that has an innocent query with something all the time.

And NO, doing an AVCHD version does not mean other people should be denied the best quality versions - how would that make sense?!. It's upto Ady, but you really do jump to conclusions big time.

Why not take advantage of 25 GB's instead of a friggin measley 8 GB's, makes no sense, at least not to me and I am sure a few others.

But you know what, it really does not matter anyways to me I guess, I will for sure download it, but then it will get burned and put in a box and backed up on an external drive, probably won't even watch it, truth be told, I have NEVER seen ANH:R.

Obviously you can't take advantage of 25 GB if you have no way to burn them.

At any rate, it's adywan's decision.  If I can get it in a format where I can make my own AVCHD as suggested earlier, I'll be happy.

What?  Then why download it?  Why express an opinion either way?

Let people who want avchd/bd9 or dvd5 shrink it themselves?

I download them because I have the upmost respect for Ady's crazy cool devotion to these films, and maybe someday I will actually watch them fully, but Fan edits of the SW films are not my thing, they never have been, it is like this with me, you have a few people here that bitch, moan, groan, and complain about what GL is doing to the films and not doing to the films, but then you have these same individuals doing over the top crazy editing of said films themselves, well what makes them any different than GL LOL? I am not saying Ady is one of them, but there are some here that fall into this category and I am sure you know who they are as well without having to finger point.

I voted for Blu-ray because of Ady's devotion to these films and his level of quality, he should not hinder himself to a crappy 8 GB AVCHD, it is time to move on to bigger and better media, again that is just my opinion, take it or leave it, it is just to bad, really a shame, that ANH:R was not on Blu.

So there you go Frink, you asked me, and I was honest with my answer, so if this(my opinion) brings back lash now, well so be it, I just am not a Star Wars movie Fan Edit Fan, not at all, some of these crazy ass ideas are just to over the top, way worse than anything GL did, and I am not speaking of Ady's ANH:R or ESB:R or his future ROTJ:R.

What are you looking at? Okey, Dokey.

*Edit - I just want to add that I am not bashing Ady's project, like I said, I will browse through it, I am just AMAZED at how crazy ass good he is with this stuff.

Now that is an excellent idea, but some will still complain LOL, the PERFECT tool for doing just that is a freeware tool put out by jdobbs called BR-Rebuilder, and trust me, it IS the shit, this man knows his shit hands down!

Are there really that many people who would want to download a 25gb movie or even want a movie to take up 25gb hdd space???....or am i wrong...anyway, guess its up to Ady.

but im fine with a 4gb movie doesnt have to be HD either! :p

You can never go home again, but i guess you can shop there.

Fair enough.

...

And btw I've already mentioned twice that I'm willing to make my own AVCHD.

I would NOT use Handbrake though, definitely check out BD-Rebuilder, just make sure you install all the support files in his link, and only those, as a matter of fact I just got done making a BD9 of the French Blu-ray of Mother of Tears and it looks GREAT!

if you need a link just let me know.

Frink, You have a PM!
I just put a package together with BD-RB and all support files and instructions, all quoted from Mr jdobbs himself, Handbrake can't touch this for re encoding Blu's to BD25, BD9 or BD5.

Well currently I don't have a Blu-Ray burner but by the time Ady finishes the edit I should have one.  If not whatever version he releases I'm gonna be sure to find a way to get my hands on it!

I think it's not a matter of denying people the 25gb high quality release because others can't dl or burn it, it's the fact that there should be a choice for people on both sides of the fence. If it's relatively easy to transform a 25gb high quality video into an AVCHD so others can have it play on certain players, then that's a fair option without Ady having to do extra work. But, to say (not pointing fingers - just speaking generally) that it's going to be only in one particular format end of, then quite a few people are going to lose out, that's all some of us are saying.

Since it should be easy from the sound of it, for people to transform the 25gb file to AVCHD themselves, it won't be so bad for those who don't have burners.

The other alternative is, for people who can't dl 25gb files at all to do the AVCHD themselves, is someone that can, does it, and uploads the AVCHD to somewhere where these people can dl the smaller file. That way Ady doesn't have to upload so many files and convert it himself. We are a community afterall, I'm sure people could help out on the release.

See, the problem with some of this now is this, some people just want all the hard work done for them, when there are Great programs available now with excellent instructions on how to do this your self, it is so simple it is not even funny, not saying you guys are this way, but there are some here that are.

We should just drop it for now anyways because ultimately it is going to be up to Ady what format this is released in, it would just be a shame if it is not Blu, but what do I know.

This.

Seriously, this project is months (or years) away.  Why is everybody getting their panties in a bunch?

I agree that it's not worth continuing the discussion now.  But I just see rational discussion here, not any panty bunching.

Except for vbangle, of course.

Blu-Ray with special features

PAL DVD-9 with movie/menu only
NTSC DVD-9 with movie/menu only

NTSC Special features bonus disc
Oh yeah, PAL. Dumb differing "standards"...

I thought the whole idea of the 24fps HD video standard was to bypass the whole PAL/NTSC issue and have one universal standard that everyone could use (aside from Region codes, but that doesn't apply to burned discs).

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

The ideal would be to get a DVD version which pretty much anyone who can download it can burn these days and a blu-ray for the growing minority who can copy and pass them on (to meet Ady's standards that would probably mean a PAL and NTSC version of DVD done by him or cleared by him before release).

If Ady only wanted to do duel layered DVDs and let someone else do authorised SL and/or other versions that would cover all the same bases that ANH:R did without the extra workload.

Coverage is still the key.

The more ways people could get hold of and see the final product the more people to keep the revisited flag flying.

Don't underestimate the influence of lower resolution distribution.

I imagine a lot of people only learned of and came to contribute to ANH:R because of the distorted versions loaded up to Youtube and the clips (many of which Ady didn't put up himself but brought a lot of interest back to the source).

Personally I can't see the need for the special features to be on anything but the blu-ray which would also cut down the work load but that that's just my jive talkin'.

@Ziz - yeah, that is the idea, but it's a moot point when you're talking about standard-def DVD releases, which need to conform either to NTSC or PAL standards.

Author

Christ! I have neither a Blu Ray player or a burner and don't plan on buying either for some time, but I still want him to release it in Blu Ray format rather than one of inferior capacity, and therefore quality!

I'm more than happy to view the disk image on my PC until I get around to buying a player or burner (if I haven't by then) and as others have said, you can shrink it to DVD or AVCHD in the meantime yourselves.

It's the new standard. We're all gonna have these players in our homes eventually. Those who are objecting just because they have to spend longer downloading it or that it'll take up more space on their computers are just being selfish, ungrateful babies. And telling him to release multiple versions is just putting the burden of space/internet bandwidth on him instead of those that'll download it.

*Rant over*
