That was only STAR WARS, I need another soundmix for Empire, perhaps the theatrical stereo. 256Kbps would be ideal.

My bad, I was looking at the wrong specs. Looks like you've found a good version of the theatrical stereo though. Can't wait! The clips look awesome!

Those clips are fantastic! I can't believe it took me until now to find out about all of these preservation efforts. I've been making due with the official releases for years.

Thanks guys. The 1980 soundmix provided by Mattman works perfectly, so I'm uploading right now. Empire contains 5 soundmixes now:

1) hairy_hen's 5.1 purist mix @ 448Kbps AC3

2) 1993 2.0 mix @ 320Kbps AC3

3) 1980 2.0 mix @ 224Kbps

4) 1992 2.0 CZ dub @ 192Kbps

5) 1997 2.0 CZ dub @ 192Kbps

I put in both CZ dubs simply because there was space for them. This gives anyone space to replace them with any desired soundmix.

Nice! Now I better make sure I haven't used up my bandwidth for my current billing period :-)

This is exciting stuff! The feelings of nostalgia this brings is quite profound.

Good luck!

Harmy, if I may ask, what codec are you editing in? Also is there some place in these threads where you list the programs your using? I would like to try an edit of the Matrix sequels, and not knowing much about it yet, I thought seeing what you use to do your work might set me on the right path.

Well, actually I'm not sure if you should take my path, I'm using an amateur program called Power Director for editing because my computer keeps crushing when I try using Sony Vegas (which is what most people here recommend). For the FX work I use Adobe After Effects. There is an array of other programs I use, like TS muxer, RipBot or Yamb but if you want to start editing you should check in the Technical Discussion forum, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for there.

Thanks for the reply, Harmy. I've read through ADigitalMan's Guide, and it's very good but still leaves much for me to discover. One problem with using that guide is that I would like to work in an HD format and the guide is a bit on the outdated side for that. I'll just have to look over the the tech forum more and maybe ask a few questions there.

Sony Vegas sounds good, though I hear that its kind of complicated. Maybe I should just pick a program and try to learn it, instead of giving many programs a quick look, only to be left confused by each ones differences.

Thanks. I'll have to give Vegas a try.

I see that Spence has put up a youtube video tutorial for DVDDecrypter and Womble Mpeg Video Wizard, and I think he has one for Vegas that he's putting up later.

I've figured out all the edits I want to make (hundreds, maybe even a thousand of the bastards), its the technology I need to figure out.

Wow! Thanks for supplying the original stereo mix OmegaMattman! I can't wait to see this. All those audio tracks combined with such great video will be an ultimate release. Thanks for making this, Harmy! Please count me in as interested for the links once this is completely uploaded...

EDIT: On a separate note about audio tracks, Harmy, would you be interested in the Editdroid isolated score for ROTJ and ANH for when you eventually do those? I've already uploaded the ROTJ one to Hotfile for another project so all I need to do is post the links. Also, if you're interested, I also have the ANH commentary track from OCPMovie's Classic Edition.

I was gonna suggest using the ESB isolated score from the Editdroid release too or perhaps Dark Jedi and ABC's Isolated Score release but seeing as how the DVD is finished...

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'll be putting them into my releases (I might though) but I'm definitely interested in obtaining them :-)

Also, it is now completely uploaded, so if you're interested let me now. (Again, preferably here than by PM).

Vegas is one of the easiest video applications to learn how to use. That is why it became so popular so quickly.

Wow, it is? I must be one of the stupidest video editors then because it seemed incredibly complicated to me, so many buttons and windows and not enough space for anything on my laptop's 15.4" monitor ;-D

The only windows that come up by default are a timeline, a preview window, an audio slider, and a file browser.  You can change the file browser to any of a number of other things (for instance, if you want to browse backgrounds instead).  It all fits on my 15" screen, but I do have to resize things to keep the preview window reasonably large while still viewing multiple tracks on the timeline.  I make the timeline tracks as small as they'll go, and the preview window as large as I can.  You're right there are little buttons all over the place, but most of them can be ignored as they are shortcuts to functions that are on the right-click menus.  You only need to use a few of them at the start, like the mute and solo buttons, and the play, stop, and pause buttons.

You can generally start right out by browsing for the files you want, stacking them in rows on the timeline, and pressing play.  Where Vegas excels is in manipulating the clips on the timeline... stretching, cutting, moving them around, and crossfading them is, I found, intuitive. And pretty much everything can be previewed in real time without rendering or pre-rendering, so you can try stuff out immediately as you move things around. Even Avid requires pre-rendering a lot of things that Vegas can just preview instantly.

I started out with iMovie and was impressed with its ease of use. However, as my needs became more intricate, I found myself finding it hard to get it to do the things I needed to do. The first time I fired up Vegas, I never opened iMovie again.  I've also used Premiere, MovieMaker, and Avid, and find Vegas by far the easiest to use.  Of course, this is my personal opinion and other people may have their own style of working/thinking.

I'd be interested in a link to this as well. Thanks.

PMs sent.

And guys, could we please move the pro/against Vegas discussion somewhere else? I can't get it to work without crushing all the time anyway, so even if I did like it, I wouldn't be using it, so it's quite off topic here :-)

I'm so thrilled for this version! Would be very happy to get a pm!
