Several have asked me that question. Probably they don't realize my primary workstation is a Pentium-III with 80GB disk.
About a month ago I did try capturing my LD using a stand-alone DVD recorder, but it turns out to be a steaming pile of Funai.
Refuses to record any of the four blank media flavors I've tried. Well it's probably a blessing in disguise.
Even in 1-hour mode, an MPEG2 recording with hard pulldown wouldn't be ideal.
More recently I've got an old file server to play with. It has MegaRAID card with three SCSI channels, and 18GB disk per channel.
In RAID-0 configuration the disk subsystem should be fast enough, albeit not very large capacity.
Motherboard has dual Pentium-III's installed (but the BIOS is so old it thinks they're Pentium-II ) running at 500MHz.
I wonder if that would be enough horsepower for FFVH codec (that's FFmpeg's HuffYUV implementation).
Maybe, just maybe it becomes a project and not merely an object.
One step at a time...
