Battle Los Angeles. I really enjoyed this movie, quite like Independance Day in a few places but it was different to see an alien invasion using enemy foot soldiers instead of all powerful space ships.

Just finished watching "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", the movie, on YouTube. Well, I skipped many, many parts, the whole thing is like a huge collection of music videos. Needless to say, I can see why it's rarely mentioned. It's an odd film, some of the covers are good but the rest really don't work for me; most interesting parts of this movie, for me, were George Burns (yes, even the "Fixing a Hole" cover), Earth Wind & Fire, and Billy Preston.
Speaking of Billy Preston, here's something that I noticed, as a Star Wars fan: when he's shooting lasers out of his hands, the sound is unmistakably that of a lightsaber being turned on:

and earlier in the film, towards the beginning, I've heard the sound of Luke's speeder a couple of times:

the same sound is used with the machinery in Mr Mustard's van, along with a couple of sounds from the Millennium Falcon
what in blue blazes??
The tie in here would most likely be RSO records (Robert Stigwood Organisation). The producers of the SPLHCB film, and also the distributor of the Soundtracks to Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and the Re-issues of Star Wars and Story of Star Wars.

I noticed those when I was forced to watch it as a child. (Donald Pleasance with hair? Ahhhhhh!)

Harold and Maude.
Very good film. I hope to be as awesome as Maude when I'm 79 years old.
Eulogy (2004), with Zooey Deschanel, Hank Azaria, Ray Romano, and Rip Torn, among others.
It may not be the greatest movie in the world, but I have a soft spot for it. Not sure why, exactly - I just think it's charming and funny. And it's the only thing I've ever been able to stand Ray Romano in.

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington for the hundred thousandth time. This should be mandatory viewing. As time passes, it becomes more and more true.

Great scott, it was heavy, it was the awesome blu ray version.
How are the bonus features?
Get Carter (1971) - Great movie. Love me some Michael Caine.
Yume (Akira Kurosawa's Dreams) - Not his greatest film, but still far above most director's best efforts. The recent troubles in Japan got me thinking about the "Mount Fuji in Red" section, so I watched it again last night before I went to sleep :-(

Watched Galaxy Quest. Fun movie and, Sarris is fucking brutal!

watched that recently - I love the engineer, nothing shocks or awes him.
Watched a grindhouse-esque fanedit somebody did of Mortal Kombat. Coulda gone further with it but it WAS better than the original film so I can't complain.

You have the old Criterion DVD? Is the commentary good? I've always wanted to hear it.

I adore this movie. This seriously deserves a blu! The current DVD is only single layer and pales next to the 35mm original I saw last year!
Jack Carter is the definition of badass. Cool, sophisticated, driven, remorseless, bored-Harry Palmer on steroids. And that score... :)

A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
black and white version of The Mist. Good fun but damn depressing.
I've heard that the book has a different ending but I've never read it.
The book's ending is much less depressing than the movie's.
I have to say that, while I'm normally disappointed with the endings of Stephen King film adaptations, I'm glad The Mist's was changed. I like the movie's ending better.
And I definitely think the movie works better in black and white, too.

You do realise that Maude was really an idealised facet of Harold's psyche?
The first rule of Fake Suicide Club is you do not talk about Fake Suicide Club.
The second rule is get a banjo and learn some Cat Steven's songs.

I thought the ending to The Mist was perfect, i bought this movie on blu ray as a blind buy for £8.00 what an excellent buy. Ive still to watch the black and white version though.
I can also recommend the binaural audio drama.
Through a good pair of headphones in the dark, it's a really bizarre and worrying experience.
Just finished watching Back to the Future. It was nice to be reminded of just how excellent this film really is.
