I disagree with you Johnny, besides the gender shift the characters are remarkably similar even down to their shared ultimate fate.

Both are cocky, cigar chomping, heavy drinking, sexual predators.

The bromance/romance with Apollo is there.

The gambling streak is there (both in life and games).

The mystical stuff happens to both characters.

But like everything in NuBSG it's just tone shifted from campy family fun to more adult centred character driven drama.

Warb if you can read this comparing the two, is part of the fun.

It's essentially the same story but so shifted in tone that it feels completely different which is the best thing to do when telling a story again.

If they did it exactly the same what would be the point?

It is the story of refugees escaping from killer robots so making it a grim tale of survival (including the massive moral and ethical juggling involved) makes sense to me (and gripping story telling for the most part).
