*sigh*  just when we having a serious conversation.  oh well.  : (

Just because some folks are talking recipes, doesn't mean you have to change the subject as well.

And while we are on the subject of spaghetti plays and musicals, is there someone who can explain the appeal of the musical?  I don't really get it.  Of course, I have enjoyed a bunch of operas, so maybe I am not really giving musicals a chance.

There are some emotions best expressed through song/music?

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Put me in the "hate musicals" category.

Although I do love Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog, does that count?

Oh, sure.  I think thats why I like opera.  It just has a power or an oomph to it.

Doctor Horrible rules.

The ending is typical Joss, he's at a point where I'd be more shocked if he didn't kill someone off, but it was rather necessary to complete the storyline of becoming a villain.

Joss and his brothers have a real knack for coming up with catchy and memorable songs with clever lyrics that can get stuck in your head forever.  See the Buffy musical episode for a comparison . . .

Musicals can be good if they are cheesy fun and don't take themselves too seriously - like Repo or Across the universe or indeed Dr Horrible.

Ditto. Growing up, I hate an intense loathing for musicals. Once I learned to view a film according to its genre, I've acquired an enjoyment for them. Of course, as with any other genre, there are good ones and there are bad ones.

I find it odd that you would like operas but not musicals.   I would like operas if they were in English.   But since most operas aren't, I have too much difficulty understanding what is going on.   It is like trying to watch a foreign language film without the subtitles.  But I do like the music.

Oh god.  The musical commentary for Dr. Horrible crax'd me up.  It's just that awesomely bizarre.

^you are correct.
I showed it to my wife, and she had the exact opposite reaction, but not because she didn't like the original, just forgetting that there was one.
