Empire's Prey is our first attempt at an audio drama.

Opening Crawl:

Though the galaxy is not at peace, the war has ended. The Galactic Empire has rid the galaxy of nearly every Jedi. Very few have been spotted across the outer rim. The rebel alliance is still a small, defenseless group of outcasts and not a threat to the Empire.

A small band of Refugees, Jedi Master Warren, his former apprentice Reave a Jedi Knight, and their pilot Cal have been on the run since the fall of the republic. They have been living in hiding until they find the empire at their door step....

Summary:

As the small group of refugees, Jedi Master Warren, Jedi Knight Reave, and their pilot Cal, struggle to avoid the empire's seemingly all-seeing eye, they come across a mysterious woman named Rane whom they believe is also a Jedi. They take her in as to protect her from the imperial forces. They discover that she is in fact not a Jedi, but very force sensitive and could be trained to become one. Together they flee further into the outer rim with the empire not far behind....

Responses in this forum tend to either be harsh, or just interpreted as harsh since the script author has put so much of him/herself on the line by posting... so I'll try to be kind and hope you will take it unpersonally.

I have ~0% interest in reading/seeing/listening to anything that takes off from the PT.  You mention Order 66, and I immediately lose interest.  I represent a portion of your audience, I assume.  You'll have to decide how much you care about the tastes/interests of my segment of your audience, but I wanted to let you know that I will probably not follow your story at all if that is your setting.

Would you consider reworking the setting to be PT agnostic?

You forgot disinterested but good-natured tomfoolery ;-)

Oh, but I've tried!

Sorry man, but I've got to agree with xhonzi on this one.  If it's related to the official PT, I have zero interest.

Perhaps others on the forum might disagree, but I doubt those folks venture into this section much.

Well I do care about continuity some what, but other than the mention of order 66 it has nothing to do with the prequels that wasn't mentioned in the OT.

(Also, I would rather you be completely truthful rather than trying to make me feel better about a failure. I want to create the best production I can.)

Well Xhonzi, You've convinced me. I have decided to replace "Order 66" with "The Empire" in the opening Crawl, and I don't believe it is mentioned at all in the dialogue at all.

Yay!

Now you just have to avoid Padawan and the like.  Might be too far out of your plans, but I'm just being honest.

Oh yeah.  I'll just replace that with "student".

I sometimes forget that some of these words came from the PT.

I grew up with the prequels and they got me into star wars.

I've since realized how bad they are but the terminology is still pretty engrained in my mind unfortunately.

I started the script with the intent of making it feel like the originals.

I'll reread the script and make sure I didn't put in any others in there.

I'd say "apprentice" works just as well as "student," and it's much less silly than "Padawan."

This actually sounds like a pretty interesting project.  I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Editing test:

I made a very short lightsaber battle. Is there anything that is jarring to the ear?

(Besides that there are no grunts or vocals at all and the non brash sounds are kind of low quality. Speaking of which does anyone know a good free sound effect site?)

Also, a trailer may be coming relatively soon, when I can get the actors over to record.

Hmmm ... I get an "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" page when I click on the link.

Having listened to the clip, I don't find anything majorly wrong with it. There is this weird sound in the beginning that sounds like a thunderclap, though, and some creaking sounds at the end - were those intentional?

Only just noticed the credit to me in the first post. Thanks man.

Also glad you decided to get rid of the prequel stuff. I agree with Xhonzi :-)

You could try here:

http://fxhome.com/sounds/

He's designed all the sounds himself from scratch. Lots of pretty damn good Saber sounds there which may be perfect for you.

Apologies that my own archive is still lacking. There are thousands, if not tens of thousands of sounds to sort through. Very daunting!

I honestly think there's a wealth of stories that can be told in the years between ROTS and SW.  The beginnings of the Rebellion, Vader hunting down and destroying the Jedi one by one while the remaining few either scatter or try to regroup, the struggles of average joes as the Empire asserts its control over each planetary system ...

And Lucas hasn't delivered on any of these.

The great thing about it is that you can almost completely ignore the PT, or not.  The whole era's wide open.

Like I said, I'm really looking forward to this, and I hope others follow suit and start telling stories set in the same time period.

No problem Brash. I was looking more for footstep sounds and thuds and things like that but that site has a lot of useful stuff that I will definitely use. Thanks.

I agree. Glad you like the premise, ChainsawAsh

We've started the recording process and have most of Reave's lines down.

I only recorded a couple for Cal (I'm not so good at voice acting I might get someone else to do Cal.)

We got a few for Rane as well.

I still need to find a Warren.

I may be able to put together a trailer with what I've got.

There was a project here years ago where a bunch of locals provided voice work.  You should take auditions.

I don't think I'd be disappointed, but I'd rather keep the sound consistent. On one mic.

Anyway, I've made some progress on the trailer.

I'm going to have the actors come back and redo a few lines.

I estimate the trailer will be 60 seconds long.

UPDATE:

Ugh, Okay. I've not gotten nearly as far as I wanted by now. My main character has been very busy lately and hasn't even been able to finish recording his lines for the trailer.

In the mean time I thought I'd rewrite the beginning a little and ended up starting to rewrite the whole script.I'm about half way through.

I don't have any friends that can imitate an old man's voice so if you can sound like/are an old man (Frink?) and have a decent sounding mic I'll definitely consider anyone interested.

Also, I've got the basic structure of the trailer done in audacity but I'm trying out Amadeus pro.

So, just curious, how old would you guess that I am?

Hmm, I imagine you as at least 80.
