Return To Oz is great stuff.
Nichol Williamson AND Jean Marsh in the same film, you can't go wrong there.
I still have Doctor Who fantasies about Merlin meeting Sara Kingdom again, for the first time.

It was the first time I'd seen the Blu-Ray color timing. And I hate to admit it ... but I like it better.
Really? I was kinda peeved about that change, but I haven't seen the Blu yet.

Yes I know-triple post.
The Manchurian Candidate (1962) Blu-Ray. This little best buy exclusive is only 10 bucks. Holy crap-John Frankenheimer is in HD!! Brilliant transfer and simply amazing to see the paranoiac cinematography in 1080p. You start to notice the heavy grain and almost verite type surrealism that was apparent on first viewing. Only downside is that the original mono is not included. Still, the DTS-HD isn't distracting. An absolute must! (Criterion-can we have Seconds now?)

"Best Worst Movie"
An enjoyable look at the life of people who really aren't actors, but have an odd brush with a kind of fame.
Young Sherlock Holmes. Good fun.
I own it on DVD, and I must say, it's pretty shocking that it has literally NO bonus features.
I mean, COME ON! This movie was a special effects breakthrough! It would have been neat to see how they did the stained-glass knight in 1985.
Oh well, looks like I'll just have to check Youtube for anything of that sort...
The game is afoot!
Red.
John Malkovich cracks me up in this movie . . .
Some direct-to-video or TV POS "horror" film called Behind the Wall.

Awwwwwwww yeah!
That was my reaction as well.
So...you must have bought $240 worth of pudding then?
The Evil Dead-
Love the movie and the Blu-Ray does it justice. Check out my new avatar and title. ;-)
Harmy's ROTJ Theatrical Reconstruction. Yes!

Harmys PAL Jedi reconstruction, awesome.
I had a pal over for the weekend so we got to see a few films (though we mostly caught up with the US version of The Office and played Zelda).
Machete was a real giggle, I haven't seen the two films which make up Grindhouse but I had to chortle as every 70's/80's exploitation cliche was paraded before my eyes.
Resident Evil : Afterlife, in places a rather watchable film and in other places a Wesker fan film and in others a late-late-late Matrix pastiche. As always the films capture next to nothing of the spirit of the games but after four of them I've come to expect that now. The obvious lead in to another sequel makes it seem increasingly unlikely that the very filmable game series will ever get a live action film that resembles the source material in my lifetime.
Question: Did Machete have fake trailers like Grindhouse did?

What's your favorite of the Evil Dead trilogy?
Mine's AOD.

It didn't when I saw it but it should have had some of the old ones (mostly the ones that have yet and possibly will never go into production) and some new ones to pass the baton on.
If there is enough interest in the idea it might be fun in the script writing zone to have a faux trailer writing thread (those of us here with access to the equipment could even make the best ones).
It could be the beginning of a new error in cinema history.
Watched Moon recently. Really good film.

The King's Speech, immediately after it won the Best Picture Oscar.
It totally deserved it. It's fucking hard to make a movie about people talking and make it visually and emotionally engaging. They did it, and they did it in spades.
And fuck Harvey Weinstein for cutting the "fucks" out for a PG-13 re-release. One, the movie shouldn't have been rated R in the first place, and I'm including the "fucks" here. Two, the "fucks" are actually pretty goddamn important to the fucking story!
I really hope the PG-13 version doesn't end up being the version everybody remembers, because the R version is pitch-perfect.
Those scenes were the only immediate emotional content of the movie. They get the audience completely on the side of the characters and are essential.
Unnecessary cash grab.

You are now on my friend list. :-)
To censor the language in The King's Speech is pretty much a crime against cinema. It's extremely important to the emotion and character of the whole thing, and even the plot, and it's not like it was just vulgarity done out of crass buffoonery the way such things often are. What a bunch of damned idiots . . .
