^ I entirely agree. If there are younglings present, they must be slaughtered. It is to account for the fate of these characters, as well as to seal the new underling's loyalty in blood with the slaughter of innocents ( Tyrants and organized criminals have been using that heinous tactic throughout history.)
Various fan-editors are side-stepping such difficulties through outrageous acts of revisionism (I continue to wonder at the tolerance of LFL and The MPAA.)
I would keep the sequence of the boy on the landing platform. Perhaps the Jedi order begin their apprenticeships at the age of 11 or 12?
I've read some histories of WWII. I recall reports by SS officers after the war stating that Himmler broke down in hysterics when he witnessed with his own eyes the mass killing of civilians. My rule of thumb is that if it's too much for Himmler, it's too much for a fallen hero in a SW movie.
