It's not taking long to get used to the controls. It's just a bit of a pain because of how drawn out the beginning is... But i guess that's part of the appeal.

I never thought the thought of shooting horses to be comforting... until now!!!!! That sounds like a blast!!!!

Wow.

Here, you guys watch this awesome trailer while I excuse myself and go change my pants.

Disclaimer: It is a trailer for a zombie game and is pretty violent. Just thought I should warn rather than offend unsuspecting people... oh yeah, and it depicts the death of child, which apparently a lot of people have found offensive so far. If any of that bothers you, just don't watch it.

Yeah! So emotional. That trailer is way better than any actual zombie film I have seen recently. I wonder when people decided zombie movies had to be over-the-top campy shock comedies that usually fail to shock?

I like the reversed video gimmick, pretty visually effective. But for replay value I prefer the chronological version IGN reedited (also on youtube, I think that video I liked to links to the chronological one).

I saw this a few days ago on FE.org.  Just amazing.  And so sad.

I'd love to see a (non-crappy) movie version of this.

I'd love to play the game. Sounds pretty cool. Hope they manage to pull it off.

L.A. Noire

Hmm, Rockstar Games. So basically it is Red Dead Redemption/Grand Theft Auto IV/Bully in a 1950's detective setting... I guess it is cool if you are into the open world clunky control third person thing, I just never have been. No matter what setting or genre they turn it into it isn't my thing.

I really enjoyed Bully for a while, thought it was pretty cool, played it for what felt like a really long time. I was beginning to get tired of it, and was pretty sure I was nearing the end. Then the gates to the school opened up and let me leave the school grounds and venture into the much larger world of the surrounding neighborhood, and my friend (who recommended the game to me) excitedly told me, "No it isn't almost over! It is just starting! You pretty much just beat the tutorial. You still have a lot of game left to enjoy!" and I smiled back and said, "Ah, that's... good..." and promptly never played it again.

I think I made it almost an hour into GTA4 before failing near the end of a mission, deciding I really couldn't be bother to redo the whole thing again, and put the game away for good. And for some stupid reason I still keep thinking, "Man, Red Dead Revolver looks cool! I should buy it when it gets a bit cheaper." But it will be the same thing again, after a few hours of playing I'll fail and the annoyance of restarting it will overshadow my desire to press forward and find out what the rest of the game has in store for me. I'll probably think the same thing and be tempted when the price of L.A Noire begins to drop as well.

Speaking of crappy third person games... I have yet to put my recently purchased copy of Assassin's Creed II in my console and give it a try or to try out that copy of Mass Effect my friend loaned me (along with Fable II, also untouched) in exchange for Bioshock 2. I've got a lot of third person goodness (?) awaiting for my attention.

How dare you put ACII in the category of crappy third person games.

You need to start it.  Do it today!  Then get addicted to the Facebook game like my wife and I are.

I am actually looking forward to playing ACII, I am just not ready to start on it yet.

Well... on what/whom are you waiting?  Get on with it!

In other news, I wanted to re-recommend "A World of Keflings" as a nice "sit on the couch with your lady and play" game.  Not as good as was "Lara Croft: GoL", but still pretty good.  As I said earlier, my wife was sick last Saturday and we put a good 6 hours into it.  Good times.

Just finished Beatles: Rock Band and was pleasantly surprised how much I actually enjoyed it. Slightly different timing scheme than RB2 though. Grrr.

Did you calibrate both of them?  Or did you mean something else?

The Dead Island trailer is a great piece of total CGI film making (it has a strong emotional effect) but as none of what we see in it is in the game, other than zombies and the general idea of the resort, it's not necessarily a good enough reason to go out and get the game (it's taken a fair old time coming too).

I worked as a runner on a short film called Life Story featuring David Dixon and Avis Bunnage in the late eighties which used a similar time reversal technique.

It was about a girl dying from the effects of a back street abortion (grim stuff). The actors were a bit miffed to find this out while filming (the director didn't want them to be aware until the film was finished but someone let it slip).

I would really like to track the film down because I've never seen it or the other short film shot around the same time which I actually appear in which is called King Of Jazz.

Really enjoying returning to Ocarina Of Time, it's astonishing how fresh the game feels even after all this time.

That is pretty normal and acceptable for a game trailer. When a game is that far from release teasers like this are just released to generate interest and to get a feel for the market's interest. This was more of a "So, what do you think about this?" trailer, closer to the launch date you can expect some "Hey, you should buy this product we're selling!" ads.

It's calibrated properly, but I just noticed a slight difference between games. This probably carried over to RB3.

The only thing marring my enjoyment of redoing Ocarina Of Time is knowing There Will Be Water Temple!

Thankfully the 3DS version has these two things going for them:

Eiji Aonuma apologized for the design of the Water Temple in a 2009 interview, and, with the announcement of the Nintendo 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time, specifically mentioned that he plans on changing the gameplay in such a way to make the Water Temple less frustrating, such as making the Iron Boots easier to use.

The Water temple is actually less difficult on Master Quest. The infamous "serpent-shaped" room now has Hookshot targets over the wall, making it easy to simply bunny-hop through the vortex-filled gauntlet.

Side note: I didn't realize that my wife and I were only a few minutes away from the Water Temple before we decided to sell the game (again). I think I would have sold the game anyway had I known that.
